The last few months have been an incredibly challenging time for all of us and daily life as we knew it is likely to be a distant memory for the foreseeable future. For us it has been particularly frustrating because we have been unable to see those of you that have suffered with dental problems. Periodontal disease (periodontitis) or as it is more commonly known, pyorrhoea, is a disease of the periodontium, that is, the supporting apparatus of the teeth consisting of the alveolar bone, root cementum, periodontal ligament, and gums.

The cause of the disease is bacterial, even though, within the range of cases of periodontitis, it is also possible to find different associated causes depending on the specific situation, which on their own are not capable of causing periodontitis and are often not even recognised as periodontal symptoms but instead as independent inflammation conditions (bleeding gums, halitosis).
