Dental composite bonding can be used for a variety of structural and cosmetic purposes. Your smile can be transformed in a single visit. Specialised white composite filling material can be used to restore broken teeth, fill in gaps, reshape teeth and alter the shade of your teeth. This technique requires a skilful artist who has experience using specialised bonding materials.
CAN BONDING COMPOSITE BE USED FOR ALL CAVITIES?
Bonding is not advisable for teeth with large cavities as the material is not strong enough over large areas. Composite material is ideal for small fillings and front teeth. The aesthetic result is not as long lasting or as strong as porcelain.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE OF DENTAL BONDING?
For most cases local anaesthetic is not required. The surface onto which the bonding material is being added needs to be roughened and cleaned thoroughly. The tooth is isolated using rubber dam, or cotton rolls, to keep the area dry. A bonding agent is added to the tooth and bonding composite added in layers. The correct shade is selected and the material is set hard using a special blue light (curing light). The final step involves careful polishing and buffing to give a smooth finish.
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES?
The main drawback is that it does not have the strength of ceramic materials such as porcelain or zirconia. The other main problem is that the margins can stain over time. On the other hand, the main advantage of dental composite bonding is that it is quick and easy to repair.
HOW MUCH DOES COSMETIC BONDING COST?
The cost varies depending on the type of procedure but the cost is substantially lower than a veneer or crown.
