About Abra Dental - Elizabeth

Most dental offices never see a patient before their first birthday. This one does. Lip and tongue tie evaluations for infants are part of what the Jefferson Avenue practice handles, and they are usually raised because feeding is going badly rather than because anyone is thinking about teeth yet. From there the age range runs the whole way up: cleanings, X-rays, fluoride and sealants for children, gum health assessments, oral cancer screening, bonding, extractions and whitening for the adults who brought them in.

Sealants are the least glamorous thing done in this building and among the most useful, so it is worth knowing what the appointment involves. The chewing surfaces of permanent molars are not smooth. They carry deep, narrow grooves that a toothbrush bristle is physically too wide to enter, which is exactly why a child gets a first cavity there rather than anywhere else. A sealant fills those grooves. The tooth is cleaned and dried, a mild etching gel roughens the enamel for a few seconds so the material grips, the gel is rinsed away, and a thin resin is flowed into the grooves and hardened with a curing light. No drilling, no numbing, a few minutes per tooth. Sealants wear down over the years and get checked at each recall visit, and they protect the grooves only, which is why flossing between the back teeth still matters.

Braces and clear aligners are run in-house rather than referred to a separate address, which removes an entire second set of appointments from a family calendar that is already full. The practice is one of several New Jersey offices in the Abra Health Group network, so a family that moves within the state can usually keep its records rather than starting again. Saturday appointments run into the early afternoon and there is a published after-hours emergency number, which is the difference between a Sunday abscess handled by a dentist and one handled in a hospital waiting room.

Jefferson Avenue sits toward the Elizabethport end of the city, close enough to walk or reach by bus for the households immediately around it, and a slower trip if you are driving in from the western neighbourhoods or off the highway. For a practice whose schedule is built around children, being reachable without a car on a weekday afternoon is arguably the more useful of the two.

Abra Dental in Elizabeth is a family practice weighted toward children: cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, sealants, lip and tongue tie evaluation, extractions and oral cancer screening, plus braces and clear aligners handled in-house so teenagers are not referred elsewhere. Adults are seen for hygiene, bonding and whitening at the same address. Saturday appointments and a published after-hours emergency line make the office workable for parents on fixed schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions

How young can a child be seen at this office?
Very young. Beyond first cleanings and fluoride for toddlers, the practice evaluates lip and tongue ties in infants, which is usually raised when feeding is difficult rather than when teeth are the concern. Early visits are mostly about familiarity: letting a child sit in the chair, counting teeth, and getting through an appointment without distress so later visits are not fought over.
What happens if a dental emergency comes up after hours?
The office publishes a separate after-hours emergency number rather than leaving patients with a voicemail until morning. That matters most with children, where a knocked-out permanent tooth is genuinely time-sensitive and swelling from an abscess can move quickly. Calling first also settles whether the situation needs an emergency room or can safely wait for a same-day appointment.
Are sealants worth it if my child brushes well?
Usually yes, because brushing is not the limiting factor. The grooves on a molar chewing surface are narrower than a toothbrush bristle, so plaque sitting inside them is unreachable no matter how diligent the child is. Sealing those grooves closes the most common site of childhood decay. They protect the biting surface only, so flossing between teeth remains necessary and sealants are re-checked at recall visits.

Emily was very helpful with providing me with information and scheduling me with an appointment. Thank you Emily PS.....and I loved the fact that the office had parking for all going to the Dentist. Sorry AbraDental, I am NOT a fan of self check-in process. Please hire a professional speaking human being in need a job that does not mind👀 checking people in. Keep up the good work. 👍 Be back soon. 👍

So. My first experience wasn’t the greatest because of the wait. But after that they have been great. I they took care of both of my daughters needs. Multiple times, No problem with appointments or staff. I do recommend. Since they have everyone u may need in one building.

I was recently referred by a friend who’s children goes here. My appointment for my children was today. Our experience was absolutely amazing. My children and I finally have a family dentist after being let down by two in the past. Super fast, excellent staff all around! Thank you so much from my kids and I!

I had a great experience thanks to Nicolly and Xomari! Nicolly did an amazing job at the front desk, she was extremely kind, patient, and helpful throughout the entire process. She made setting up autopay quick and easy and also helped me schedule my appointment without any issues. Xomari was also very professional and welcoming, making the experience even better. Both provided excellent customer service and made everything smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!

I'm not one for posting reviews, but feel this one is definitely necessary. I took my son to ABRA DENTAL for the first time and was a bit undecided if I was going to return. Had a 5:20 pm appointment on a Thursday, didn't leave until after 7 pm. It was packed, but a Thursday at that time kinda makes sense as to the amount of people and wait time. Finally was seen and was a bit more at ease because the staff was welcoming, patient and very attentive. I was extremely happy with my sons cleaning and how they made my super nervous boy relax and comfortable. They talked him through the entire procedure. Today was our second visit on the following Saturday at 8 am, for 2 fillings. This time we seen a different dentist and his vibe was AMAZING from the moment he walked in to the moment we left. We were done within 1 hour, and I must say it was a GREAT experience and I honestly look forward to staying with this practice for years to come for my entire family. Even Scheduling appointments is a pleasure with the staff, no issues with appointment availability which to me is very important. Thank you ABRA DENTAL!!!!
