About Academy Kids Dental & Vision
Academy Kids Dental & Vision provides dental care on North Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. My kids loved the staff! From front desk to the assistants! The doctor was very sweet and helpful with dental care options.
Couldn't get my son in for an emergency broken tooth. They have 3 locations here..it's ridiculous
Great experience from start to finish my daughter said she had a great time and I was very satisfied with the care she recieved ❤️
Rosa is a wonderful women she always make sure my kids are comfortable she has so much respect and she is just amazing lady I recommend her always she also makes everything clear to the parents so there comfortable as well as her patients are!!!!
Ingrid at the Citadel location was amazing ! She went out of her way to assist me with my billing questions and even found a solution for all by sending them to my child’s insurance. She advocated on my son’s behalf when I felt powerless. She was very professional and kind and she followed through with everything she could by even telling me she would call me back today and she absolutely did. Ingrid thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
We've been regulars here for a while, and I can't say enough good things about the team! The entire front desk staff is always so welcoming, kind, and helpful. Thank you so much to everyone for always taking such great care of my son.
We witnessed a non-English-speaking toddler with Down syndrome being physically restrained during what appeared to be a simple exam, while staff attempted to “comfort” him in English. This was unnecessary and deeply concerning. The child was clearly distressed, and there did not appear to be any urgency that justified that level of force, especially after hearing the mother state she had no concerns and that her child maintains routine care. Situations like this require patience, adaptive communication, and child-appropriate techniques, not restraint as a first response. We know better. Modern care emphasizes trauma-informed approaches, especially for children, patients with disabilities, and those facing language barriers. What I saw felt outdated and unacceptable. Even my 15-year-old recognized something was wrong and left upset. That alone speaks volumes. You serve many Medicaid and underserved families. That responsibility requires a higher standard of compassion, respect, and professionalism. There is a clear need for additional training. Do better.
We had such a great experience at Academy Kids Dental at Citadel Crossing today! From the moment we walked in, the team was welcoming, professional, and right on time—something that really matters with a busy schedule and a kiddo in tow. Dr. Becky was absolutely outstanding. She took the time to examine my son with genuine care and concern, making sure he felt comfortable the entire visit. You can tell she truly cares about kids and what she does—it made all the difference. The whole staff was friendly, courteous, and incredibly professional. It’s not always easy finding a dental office that’s both efficient and great with kids, but this place really checks all the boxes. Highly recommend Academy Kids Dental at Citadel Crossing if you’re looking for a trustworthy, caring dental team for your family!
This is a review for the pediatric dentistry side of this business. I am horrified after taking my toddler here. They examine patients in an open room. This is a huge HIPAA violation. Everything is shared and out in the open amongst 5-6 patients at one time. If you want your child to feel like a product on a factory line, this is the place for you. I watched the dentist walk from one person to the next, their chairs all in a row, side by side. So bizarre. Also, it was dirty (I couldn't stop staring at a blob of something dark and sticky running down the base of the patient chair that looked like it had been there a while) and one of the dental hygienists reeked of body odor. If hygienist is part of your job description...you should practice what you preach. The actual dentist didn't say more than a few sentences to me directly...he waited for the hygienist to relay what he was saying while I was right there (3 feet away) with my child (who is a toddler). It was very odd. 1/10 for bedside manner, which doesn't matter for a lot of adults, but for pediatric dentistry? It matters! I honestly don't know how that business hasn't been shut down for legal reasons. I felt like I needed to shower after I left and I felt guilty for exposing my child to that as her first dental experience. 100% do NOT recommend.
The best dental care for my family that I have ever experienced. I haven’t been the perfect patient but Academy kids dental has been the best debater ever! I’ve never felt like a burden. From the front desk staff to the the docs. Everyone is always professional and helpful.
The dental assistant ‘Rosa G’ was absolutely wonderful with my child. She was patient, kind, and explained everything in a way that made my child feel comfortable and safe. Her friendly attitude helped ease my child’s nerves, and the appointment went so smoothly. We’re very grateful for such a positive experience and would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a caring pediatric dental team.
