About Advanced Family Dentistry

Advanced Family Dentistry is a dental practice on North 5th Street in the Olney area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. This place is horrible!! Check your own insurance to make sure you’re covered. Don’t believe them when they say your insurance covers treatment. I have a ton of debt with this place and the work done is terrible! Don’t listen to that women at that front desk named Carmen she will have you in a financial mess and will sit there and face that computer like she doesn’t know what’s going on. If she put the claim in correctly like she was supposed to I would’ve know my financial situation prior to getting work done! I only went to this place because I moved here and it was closer to home and one person said they’re ok. Well where are the ok ppl. This place sucks!!!

This orthodontist health care office is Unprofessional and GHETTO. I had an appointment scheduled a whole 45 days after I received a consultation. I received a phone call from the office 2 days before my scheduled surgery stating I they will have to cancel my appointment because they have to renew their insurance contract. It was a mess tried to get it resolved and I just kept getting the run around even offering them another dental insurance carrier and was promised a call back and I never received a follow up call. I should have known that the time I took my first step in that dental office it was going to be a DUMP. BEWARE!!!!!! If I could give this care practice a 0 rating I would. The staff are horrible, the place is horrible again please BEWARE!!!!!!!!

My son got his braces on 8/3/22 they were put on incorrectly so they are not sticking properly. They sent him to a Bryan Mawr office the following day where nothing was done because he did not have an appointment. I called at the end of August to make an appointment and was told the office would call me back. I have called multiple times and now it is 9/21/22 the wire is stuck in my son’s gums no one answer’s the phone! Am I supposed to pay for this bracket that is missing that was the issue the very 1st day? When is the follow up appointment? I am paying out of pocket for horrible service!

The dentist didn't respect my rights to decline diagnostic and refused to clean or check my teeth without doing xrays. I told her that didnt make any sense and told her I will not be coming back there and will take my business elsewhere.
