About Affordable Dentures & Implants

NorthPointe Commons sits on Two Notch Road in northeast Columbia, and the Affordable Dentures & Implants office in Suite 10 is built around a piece of infrastructure most dental practices do not have on the premises: a working dental laboratory. Dr. Michael S. Smith and Dr. Tyler Slate are the general dentists here, and the practice deliberately narrows its scope to tooth replacement, covering extractions, partials, full dentures, implants and implant-secured dentures rather than the whole general-dentistry menu.

That on-site lab is what changes the experience of getting dentures. In the conventional route, impressions are couriered to a distant laboratory and you wait days between each try-in. Here, technicians work in the same building, so a denture can be fabricated in hours and adjusted while you are still in the chair. That matters most in the awkward stretch right after extractions, when the gums are healing, shrinking slightly, and the fit of an immediate denture shifts week by week. Relines and repairs get the same short turnaround for the same reason.

Implants answer the complaint every long-term denture wearer eventually voices: a lower denture that will not stay put. Two or more implants placed in the front of the lower jaw give the plate something to snap onto, and the difference in chewing confidence is usually immediate. A cone beam scanner on site lets the dentists check bone volume before committing to a plan, since the amount of remaining ridge, which shrinks steadily in the years after teeth are lost, decides how many implants can be placed and where.

Two things deserve saying plainly before anyone signs off on a plan. Dentures at any price take a period of adjustment; speech feels unfamiliar for the first weeks, chewing takes longer to relearn, and sore spots are normal and adjustable rather than a sign that something went wrong. Implant-secured options cost considerably more than a conventional set, so it is worth asking to see the tiers side by side with what each one includes. The office keeps a straightforward weekday schedule, Monday to Friday, eight to five, and because extraction and denture delivery can fall on the same day, it is worth arranging a ride home for that appointment.

This Affordable Dentures & Implants office sits in NorthPointe Commons on Two Notch Road in northeast Columbia, with Dr. Michael S. Smith and Dr. Tyler Slate as the general dentists. An on-site laboratory means dentures can be made in hours and adjusted the same day, and a cone beam scanner supports implant planning. The service list stays deliberately narrow: extractions, partials, full dentures, implants and implant-secured dentures, weekdays from eight to five.

Frequently Asked Questions

What difference does the on-site lab actually make?
Technicians work in the same building rather than at a distant laboratory, so a denture can be fabricated in hours instead of over several appointments spread across weeks. Adjustments, relines and repairs get the same short turnaround, which matters most in the months right after extractions, when the gums are still changing shape and the fit needs correcting more than once before it settles.
How do implant-secured dentures work?
Two or more implants are placed in the jaw, usually in the lower front where bone is densest. Attachments in the underside of the denture snap onto them, so the plate is held mechanically instead of relying on suction, which the lower jaw has never provided well. The denture still comes out for cleaning. Chewing force improves noticeably, and the cost sits between a conventional denture and a fixed full-arch bridge.
How long does it take to get used to new dentures?
Expect a few weeks. Speech feels odd at first and usually corrects itself with practice; chewing takes longer, and starting with softer food cut small helps. Sore spots are normal rather than a sign of failure, and a quick adjustment fixes them, so book those visits instead of enduring the discomfort. Immediate dentures placed at the time of extraction need relining later as the gums shrink.

I went back to Dr. Michael Smith and his team of dental professionals to do my set of lower implants because I was so thrilled with my upper set of implants. They are so comfortable and fit so well I barely notice the difference. I would recommend this location of Affordable Dentures and Implants very highly.

I am very happy with Affordable Dentures. My first visit was in 2013. In the past, I recommended them to a friend and also a neighbor, who were also pleased with their work. I had to return recently for a minor repair and I was happy to see the care they are taking because of Covid, which is having the patient call upon arrival and take care of the paperwork in their car instead of having a waiting room full of people.

My 93 yr old Mother was the patient, so I am writing this review for her. She and I both love the facility and the staff. Ms. Renee at the front desk is so nice and sweet. So is the other woman at the front desk. Dr. Smith is such a nice Man and has a wonderful beside manner. He did my Mother's extraction yesterday so smoothly and quickly. He also did the installation of her partials beautifully. She has a brand new smile. Also, her healing has been going well. I forgot to mention, the pricing for her extractions and partials was phenomenal. Go visit Dr. Smith and his staff!

They had equipment issues, failed to address the problem until after the 3rd tooth fell out & repairs weren’t intended to last any time at all. Once I requested a discount and/or refund they refused. They then demanded the teeth back, but they kept the bottoms & never returned them and due to adjusting the screws my uppers no longer fit. I started this in 09 or 10/25 & within 48 hrs the 1st tooth fell out. They lied x2 claiming if 1 more tooth fell out they would do a remake, which I had to deman to see the dentist on the 3rd tooth to get it & learn they had already had to do 10 remakes & yet they refused to take responsibility sooner which caused me humiliation, loss of work and expense to travel there. 03/17/26 caps started falling out. A total of 5 teeth 1 cap has fallen out to date.

Absolutely recommend. My 1st time since AD moved to New location, but have had Dental services performed from several sites. My experience with Two Notch Road, staff very friendly, helpful & professional 👍🏽 Watched an employee go out and physically help a patient to ensure they made it to seating area safely. I had a broken partial, and I am completely satisfied with service! Will DEFINITELY go there when I need a NEW partial 💯💢💥

I went to Affordable Dentures and Implant to get a partial and everyone was so nice and very attentive. I enjoyed the young dental assistant lady that worked with me getting fitted for my partial. Great customer service from the front office as well. They get five stars from me.💗💗💗💗
