About Afshin Rahimi, DMD
Afshin Rahimi, DMD has practiced at 2007 Divisadero Street in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighbourhood since establishing the practice in 1992 — a location on one of San Francisco's main north-south arterials at the boundary between Pacific Heights and the Fillmore District. Pacific Heights is one of San Francisco's most established residential neighbourhoods, characterised by Victorian and Edwardian architecture, proximity to the Presidio, Alta Plaza Park, and Japantown, and a long-term demographic of San Francisco homeowners and professionals.
Thirty years of practice at the same Divisadero Street address creates a clinical continuity that is unusual in San Francisco's competitive and frequently consolidating dental market. A patient who began dental care with Dr. Rahimi in 1992 has accumulated decades of diagnostic records, radiographic baselines, and clinical history with a single provider — a longitudinal relationship with the patient's oral health that no newly established practice can replicate. The accumulated case history across that timeframe — treatments performed, materials placed, endodontic work completed, prosthetics designed — gives Dr. Rahimi contextual knowledge of each long-term patient's oral health that cannot be transferred into a new chart.
Crown and bridge restorations, dental implants, and root canal treatment cover the restorative and endodontic scope. Gum disease treatment is on the service list — in Pacific Heights, periodontal maintenance for a long-term patient population with consistent recall histories differs in character from acute gum disease management in a younger demographic that deferred routine care. Cosmetic dentistry, veneers, and teeth whitening address the cosmetic expectations of the Pacific Heights professional community.
Staff members who have remained with the practice for extended periods reinforce the continuity of the clinical relationship. In a San Francisco market where newer dental practices and corporate group practices have expanded aggressively, the 1992-established Divisadero address represents a practice whose patient relationships span multiple decades.
For Pacific Heights, Fillmore, and Western Addition patients on the Divisadero Street corridor who want a long-established general dental practice with a three-decade patient relationship history at the same address, Dr. Rahimi's 2007 Divisadero Street provides that continuity of care.

I went here for a cleaning and a few fillings. Very efficient office, always gets me in promptly even if I arrive early and takes time to answer questions. The assistant is also really great at explaining insurance benefits. Super glad they are in the neighborhood
I highly recommend Dr. Rahimi at Divisadero Dental if you’re looking for a reliable, honest dentist in San Francisco. I’ve been coming here for my semi-annual checkups and also had a custom night guard fitted, and every experience has been consistently excellent. Dr. Rahimi is incredibly thorough, efficient, and genuinely cares about patient comfort. Everything has been completely pain-free, and I’ve never felt rushed during appointments. What really stands out is his no-upsell approach. He focuses on what you actually need and takes the time to explain things clearly, which builds a lot of trust. The office itself is exceptionally clean and modern, but still feels warm and welcoming, not overly clinical. The team runs on time, and everything feels very well organized. Location-wise, it’s also super convenient, especially if you’re in Pacific Heights or commuting from other parts of the city. It’s right off the 1 California line and the 24 Divisadero Muni line, and being across from B Patisserie is a great bonus for a pre- or post-appointment treat. If you’re searching for a dentist in San Francisco (Pacific Heights/Divisadero area) who is skilled, honest, and efficient, I would absolutely recommend Dr. Rahimi.
I trusted this office because of the good Google and Yelp reviews, but my experience was disappointing. During the exam the dentist told me I needed 24 fillings, but did not clearly explain which teeth. I proceeded with 4 fillings on the right side in 2023, which used about $2000 of my insurance plus $185 out of pocket. After that, those teeth became sensitive to cold air and painful when chewing. In Feb 2024 I went back because of the sensitivity. The dentist said he didn’t see a problem and suggested Sensodyne toothpaste. During that visit I had 4 more fillings on the left side, which again used about $2000 of my insurance plus $195 out of pocket. Now the teeth that were treated on the left side are also sensitive when touching or chewing. Before seeing this dentist, my previous dentist had treated my dental issues successfully. Now my insurance benefits are used up and I cannot easily return to my previous provider. Update: The office called after I posted my review, but I have lost trust and decided to move my dental care to UCSF.
Dr Rahimi and staff are professional and kind. He has a conservative approach which I like. I wish I had found him earlier.
I’ve been going to Dr. Rahimi for years, and it’s rare to find a dental office that feels this consistent and personal. Lauren is an excellent hygienist- thorough, attentive, and always makes you feel well cared for. The office is clean and welcoming, and the fact that his staff has stayed with him speaks volumes about the kind of practice he runs.
I’ve been going to Dr Afshin and his practice for a while now. My wife got me going to him. Been traveling from Pittsburgh to see him. Well over an hour. Why travel that far. Because of the SERVICE. Him and his office staff are very nice and welcoming. His office is clean and smells good. But the main thing is that he is a very good DDS. Knowledgeable and good at what he does. I had cracked my tooth and got in to see him not long after. He was able to start and drill down my tooth and put on a cap to preserve the rest of the tooth. He was going to put it in on Christmas Eve but was able to squeeze me in sooner. He’s also gentle on the numbing part. Some dentist like to shake the needle when they are poking you, but not Dr Afshin. He’s a professional. You know when people what they do. He loves what he do. And other good thing about his practice is that he right on the muni line. I got there fast by public transportation then by driving. 100 percent recommend.
Had a great experience at Dr. Rahimi's office. I needed new retainers and the office was transparent with pricing, clearly explaining my insurance coverage. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable.
Very nice office. Dr. Rahimi really took the time to complete the exam and explain all the options I had for treatment. I never felt rushed, and he made sure I understood everything. I even wanted more info so he spoke with me on the phone during his lunch break. Definitely happy with the care I received and would recommend him to anyone looking for a solid dentist.
It was a 5/5 when I walked out, but then two instances instilled serious doubt about this office's integrity. The first is that the follow up cleaning was described as being covered by insurance, but a couple days beforehand they called to "confirm" an exorbitant cost which apparently standard insurance doesn't cover. That skepticism caused me to get a second and third opinion on two additional services that Dr. Rahimi recommended. Both of the other dentists were surprised and confused with Dr. Rahimi's recs.
