About Alamitos Oral Surgery

Alamitos Oral Surgery is a dental practice on Katella Avenue in Los Alamitos, California. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that come through cleanly, in a good position, and can be kept clean are often left alone. Removal is generally advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most of the swelling and discomfort settles within about a week, with the first two or three days the most noticeable. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth generally takes longer to recover from than a simple extraction.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

Staff is extremely rude. The office manager should be fired. Do not go in here. There are many other options with staff who care about their patients. Dr allows this behavior which means they must think it is ok

This dental practice was the worst experience of my life, very rude and ill mannered uninformed staff members answering the phone and no contact with the doctor unless you're paying extra for it. Not even one star review.

My 16 year old had his wisdom teeth out in December. They were competent, they professional, communicative and first in class throughout the entire process. My son’s surgery went quickly and he recovered with little pain. Great experience all around.

Without the nurses who were there to help me through my procedure, I would have walked out. The male doctor wasn’t very nice to me or the person who I had there to drive me home. He twice asked me if I wanted to leave and not have the procedure, like he didn’t want to do it. I should have left, but the nurses were great.

Two somewhat complicated wisdom tooth extractions in 30 minutes. Fast, friendly, and professional. No worries.

If you are looking for a wonderful oral surgeon, look no farther. Dr Chandra is warm, understanding and professional. I was a frightened patient due to a previous bad dental experience and she was very patient with me. She took the time to inform me each step of the way. Her staff was very kind, sweet and helpful. They really knew how to calm me down. I also loved that she checked on me twice on the day I had my surgery to be sure that I was doing ok. I highly recommend her and her staff.

My experience was excellent. The office has a formal, open and friendly appearance. The staff is welcoming. The assistants and the doctor explained everything that was happening at every step in the process. They were calm and professional and their confidence and easy nature made feel very comfortable. My procedure was over and completed before I realized that I was finished. While I hope that I do not need to use their specialized services in the future, i would have zero reservations of going back to them. Overall, it was one of the most pleasurable experiences I've had at a dental office.
