About Arizona Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Arizona Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery provides dental care on North Wyatt Drive in the Tucson Medical Park area of Tucson, Arizona. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit. Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that come through cleanly, in a good position, and can be kept clean are often left alone. Removal is generally advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

I had an outstanding experience with Dr. Loschiavo and the entire team throughout my dental implant process. From start to finish, everything was handled with professionalism, precision, and genuine care. Dr. Loschiavo is incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain every step of the procedure, which made me feel confident and at ease. The implant process itself went smoothly, and the results have exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always willing to answer questions. You can tell they work together seamlessly and genuinely care about their patients’ comfort and outcomes. I highly recommend Dr. Loschiavo and his team to anyone considering dental implants or looking for top-quality dental care.

Dr. Loschiavo is so kind and patient. My 86 year old mom had to have a root extraction. First time ever for her to have a tooth removed and she was terrified, as was I. A family of scardy cats. The doctor was so calming and caring. Britanni, the dental assistant was also wonderful. The office front desk, Jen, was kind to take us late because the wheelchair van ran late. Awesome people. Highly recommend.

Both of my kids needed their wisdom teeth out at the same time, and AZOMS was fantastic about scheduling to make it easier for me. The staff was wonderful, communication was excellent, and the doctor set all of us at ease. I was very happy with our experience and would highly recommend!

My experience at Arizona Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery far exceeded any and all of my expectations. The dental hygienist was very helpful, calming and friendly. Dr Charles Loschiavo was beyond impressive with his skill and diligence. He went above and beyond to ensure, not only my comfort, but also that the procedure went quickly and 100% efficiently. I could not have been more impressed with his skills. And I've spent more than my fair share of time in the dental chair. Loschiavo is easily head and shoulders above the rest. I recommend him full throttle. Thanks doc. I appreciate you. Sincerely, Heather

Dr. Chris Loschiavo is an extremely gifted and talented oral surgeon. It is abundantly clear that he has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience regarding issues dealing with human teeth, bone, and jaw structures. He performed an excision of a cyst in my lower jaw. Dr. Loschiavo clearly explained what he would be doing at every step of the process. His demeanor and attitude was really wonderful, positive, and I appreciated his willingness to answer all of my questions. The surgical procedure itself was painless and under general anesthesia. His sutures were very neat and precise and there was minimal bleeding during the recovery period. His office uses all the latest technology, for example they have a 3D Scanner, and used all modern surgical techniques. All the nurses and staff were very kind and nice and I could tell they all cared about their patients' health and well-being. I was amazed by how quickly I was able to be scheduled and treated. I am very thankful that Dr. Loschiavo was there when I needed him, he is undoubtedly a world-class surgeon. Highly recommended! Thanks very much.
