About Austin City Dental

Austin City Dental is a two-dentist practice on West 38th Street in west Austin, led by Dr. Steve Cook and Dr. Melissa Hernandez. The clinic handles the full continuum from preventive care to comprehensive cosmetic and restorative work, with technology and material options that lean toward modern alternatives — zirconia and E-Max crowns, KöR whitening, laser dentistry, and Bioclear restorative work — rather than relying solely on traditional approaches.

For preventive care, the team handles dental exams, cleanings, digital X-rays, sealants, gum disease therapy, and night guards for patients with bruxism or grinding habits. Cosmetic dentistry covers Invisalign clear aligners, KöR teeth whitening, dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and the Bioclear method for closing gaps and rebuilding worn teeth. Restorative work includes dental crowns in zirconia, porcelain, and E-Max materials, fillings, dental bridges, inlays and onlays, dental implants, and full-mouth reconstruction for patients with broader structural concerns. Laser dentistry, dental emergency care, nitrous oxide sedation, and oral sedation are also part of the in-house service mix.

If you want a west Austin practice with two dentists, modern materials for crowns and veneers, and sedation options for the harder appointments, this fits.

The practice keeps weekday hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, which is a tight schedule but works for patients who want appointments earlier in the day. Most major dental insurance is accepted and the team walks through the cost picture for cosmetic and reconstructive work before any tooth is prepared. Searches that bring patients here include cosmetic dentist near 38th Street Austin, zirconia and E-Max crowns in west Austin, full-mouth reconstruction with sedation dentistry, KöR whitening in 78731, and laser dentistry near central west Austin. The practice suits patients who want material and technology choices laid out clearly — and who appreciate when the conversation about a crown includes the option between zirconia and porcelain rather than just "the material we use."

Patient since 1981. I now use Martina for cleanings. She was super gentle and my teeth felt extra cared for. The office felt fresh and clean. No problems. Satisfied……. Dr. Cook is thorough but doesn’t pressure me for work to be done. I truly like it here.

Timely, professional, comfortable. Austin City Dental has been my go to for dental needs for over a decade. Fantastic staff, convenient location with ample parking, and the dentist and techs that provide service are all top notch. I really haven’t had a bad experience there. They’ve worked with me to make it affordable - both through working with HAAM ( health alliance for austin musicians) and Dr. Cook has also matched funding they receive from HAAM so that I could get all the treatment needed without taking on medical debt. Highly recommended!!!

Been coming to ACD for a number of years, since back when I lived in central Austin. I now trek in from Cedar Park/Leander because they're just that good and worth the drive. Extremely accommodating, very friendly, care is always prompt and well handled, and both dentists are absolute wizards when it comes to giving shots. I genuinely look forward to coming in, and always leave feeling well taken care of! They also work closely with other Endodontist and Orthodontistv practices in the building for specialized assessment and care, which I personally love. I also have never once had an appointment start late, which feels like a amall miracle. Overall, Dr. Cook is a phenominal dentist and great man who genuinely cares about ensuring that he, and everybody at ACD, are providing the best possible care while ensuring patient comfort and ease. I highly recommend them for any work you may need!

Super competent and professional doctor and staff. My crown was perfectly matched in color and in bite comfort. I’m getting a bridge where there will be 3 crowns so will update then. I will say that the employees seem happy and calm. I think that’s a great reflection of the management. UPDATE: 6 months out…My bridge is divine from a functional point of view in addition to cosmetically. Settled in perfectly. Just had my dental cleaning by Martina, who did a fast and thorough job.

It was my first medical appointment with Dr. Cook. The staff was very kind and professional. I completed my medical history online, and they sent me reminders and address via text message. After reviewing the X-ray, Dr. Cook was able to quickly identify the problem and referred me to a root canal specialist, who has already redone the root canal treatment. Thank you for your care and accurate diagnosis. God bless you.

I've had consistently positive experiences here and love the staff, which is why this recent policy change was so disappointing. At my last visit, after they took X-Rays, I was informed that patients are now required to pay the full cost out of pocket at the time of service and seek reimbursement from insurance afterward. This was unexpected, and frankly, inconvenient - especially given that many dental offices handle insurance billing when they are in-network. For patients, this creates an added financial burden and extra administrative work, and it changes the overall experience in a meaningful way. I understand policies need to be adjusted sometimes but this one feels like a step backward in terms of patient support. I wish the office would reconsider or find a more patient-friendly approach but unfortunately, my husband and I are now looking for a new dentist.

Dr. Cook and his staff were very pleasant and professional, and I’m very much appreciated visiting their office. They were able to confirm I received some bad advice from another dentist office and I immediately switched to Dr. Cook. I need to update my review to A++. I recently visited (2/17/26) Dr. Cook’s office to have some bonding on my front tooth replaced. It was a full hour in the chair. The good Doc delivered a totally amazing replacement. I am stunned how good it looks. Prefect on all fronts. And he was very particular on the work and extremely detailed. He wanted perfection and delivered. Bed side manner was perfect; he checked in with on occasion but focused on my tooth. Professional still exists! His staff was great as well. I have found a new Dentist - maybe the best one yet!

This is hands down the best dentist office ever. The front desk staff are incredibly friendly, responsive, thorough--you can always reach them and get a question answered or appoint changed without hassle. Dr. Cook and all of his dental professionals (hygienist, Invisalign experts, etc.) are friendly, knowledgeable, punctual and professional This office is a well-oiled machine, the entire staff takes pride in getting you in and out promptly--I have never waited more than a a few moments to be taken back or seen by Dr. Cook/the hygienist. It's clear the entire time really values their patient's time to the highest degree
