About Austin Family Orthodontics
Austin Family Orthodontics is an orthodontic practice located at 13616 US-183 A in northwest Austin, Texas, zip code 78750. The practice specializes in orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages and is positioned along the US-183 corridor, serving the Avery Ranch, Cedar Park, Brushy Creek, and north Austin communities that have expanded substantially along this arterial in recent years.
Orthodontic treatment at this practice addresses misaligned teeth and jaw positioning. Depending on the clinical assessment, treatment options may include traditional braces with metal or ceramic brackets and archwires, or clear aligner systems that allow for more discreet treatment. The appropriate treatment type depends on the complexity of the alignment issues, patient age, and personal preference, all of which are evaluated and discussed during an initial consultation.
Orthodontic care involves a series of follow-up visits over the course of the treatment period to monitor progress and make adjustments to the appliances. The length of treatment varies based on the degree of correction needed, typically ranging from several months to a couple of years for most patients. Austin Family Orthodontics works across age groups, including children undergoing early interceptive orthodontic care, adolescents in active treatment, and adults seeking alignment correction.
Early orthodontic evaluation is recommended for children around age seven, when the mix of primary and permanent teeth allows a specialist to identify developing alignment problems and plan intervention if needed. Adult orthodontic treatment has become more common with the availability of clear aligner options that are less visible than traditional braces during the treatment period.
The US-183 A location in northwest Austin is accessible from Cedar Park, Leander, and the Avery Ranch residential communities, as well as from northwest Austin zip codes 78750 and 78717. The practice is positioned along a major arterial with accessible parking.

Easy to find from the road, beautiful office, friendly staff and my son’s retainers were done so fast!
On 21 October at 1:00pm my son had a braces removal appointment. I asked for the retainer appointment after the braces removal and was denied due to policy. I agreed to sign a waiver explaining their policy regarding retainers but wrote on the form what was verbally spoken. Saha the office manager came from the back, introduced herself then started berating me about signing the forms. Raising her voice, standing over me while I remained seated and calm. I told her I did not want an argument or a confrontation. I had to repeat myself many times until I finally asked if the service was going to be done. Dawn explained the procedure was complete. Saha then made a few more unprofessional remarks, walked away to make a copy and refused to provide corporate information. A customer with a small child was in the lobby as well as her staff. As a black man I didn't believe this would really happen to me. I feel embarrassed, belittled, and very offended. I will spread the word of my experience!
I took my child out of school early to make it to a 2:00 p.m. appointment. Unfortunately, we were left waiting in the lobby until 2:40 without any update or explanation. While I understand delays can happen, some communication would have been appreciated. It felt like a frustrating waste of time. Overall the service is good.
Dr peters told me to do braces to avoid surgery for an underbite and realign my teeth. Wrong. I had gotten braces twice through them with both times being unsuccessful to fix the underbite. He said the surgery was unnecessary. Fast forward a couple years and multiple dentists and orthodontists have recommended surgery due to the fact I could LOSE MY FRONT TEETH because of the way Dr Peters angled my teeth in an attempt to hide the underbite. Now after two sets of braces with Dr Peters, I had to get a third set of braces in order to set everything in place for surgery. Every single orthodontist I have seen after Dr Peters said braces was the wrong solution as it was never going to work, I will never understand what Dr Peters was thinking or doing if he knew it wouldn’t work.
If i could give Dr. Farr a 0 I would. I was in this morning to pick up my retainers. I want to begin by saying none of us are perfect and we all have bad days. But what a normal person does is take a mental health day off which is exactly what , Dr. Farr should have done today. The crass nature in which she treated me, a paid in full customer, was extremely deplorable and reprehensible. My retainer had been broken for a year and I was only replacing it because that is what I was told to do, replace your retainers every 2 to 3 years. She proceeded to very rudely tell me "it's plastic, it breaks" I didn't need the dichotomy of what plastic is and the fact that it breaks. Then you had to reiterate it 3 times. You are very lucky I have tact, because the wrong person would have truly let you and the whole office know how horrible you treat your patients. I may just be one customer to you, but if you keep treating your patients like this I can promise you will not be successful. You never looked at me, you were rude for no reason at all, she never asked what my issue was. I didn't have an issue. I was only trying to replace. Dr. Farr would have known that had she not been so terribly rude. If you don't have a high tolerance for foolishness do NOT go to her. She has never been friendly and always has to add a sprinkle of rude. Personality 0 out of 10. (sidebar: I started with the original orthodontist and was changed over to her a month before my braces were suppose to come off and she was rude then. I just charged her rudeness to her having a bad day, no- she is just a pure rude person.
All three of my children have been patients here. My oldest son’s experience with a previous orthodontist was great. As of 8/21, my two younger children just began their braces journey. We were booked several months prior, to which they cancelled and rescheduled with Dr. Albertson (a newer orthodontist at this practice) because the previous one retired (evidently, abruptly). Inconveniently, we were rescheduled for their fourth day back to school, in which they are both missing out on an entire half day - the appointment I had scheduled months previously was during summer break. Also inconveniently, we had to travel from Liberty Hill to the Austin location, rather than the closer Leander location we typically have appointments at. Even more inconveniently, they only got their top braces today and will need to come back for an entirely separate appointment to get the bottoms put on, resulting in even more missed school time. Being that they are both in athletics, I requested they have both top and bottom put on to avoid unnecessary missed education and athletics participation (not to mention commuting and working around a single mother’s busy schedule), however the orthodontist’s preference superseded the approach that best suited our family. This approach is completely different from my older son’s experience as well as my own experience with braces. Furthermore, from the brief exam portion, Dr. Albertson’s interactions were rigid and dry. Oh, and one of my daughter’s brackets broke within the first 3 days. For a family who has been with Austin Children’s Dentistry and Austin Family Orthodontics for over nine years now, this was an extremely disappointing experience.
