About AZ Oral

AZ Oral is a dental practice on West Ray Road in Chandler, Arizona. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that come through cleanly, in a good position, and can be kept clean are often left alone. Removal is generally advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most of the swelling and discomfort settles within about a week, with the first two or three days the most noticeable. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth generally takes longer to recover from than a simple extraction.
Why do dentists take X-rays?
Decay between teeth and problems below the gumline are invisible to the naked eye, so X-rays are what reveal them. Modern digital images use a low dose and are taken only when clinically justified.

As others have noted, they will do a cone beam CT on you at the beginning of your visit regardless of whether is a dental visit or a medical visit. They will then tell you that in order to get the images in a medical visit, you have to pay $300, because they bill it as a dental procedure. Those CT scans are absolutely worthless to you because no radiology office will read them. Doctor Shah will only look at it for about 20 seconds before forming his opinion, and not look at everything that he’s supposed to to make the diagnosis that you are therefore. Stay away from this doctor if you can, his office is going to play hymn music, but like most people who do that it is to hide their narcissistic and megalomaniacal tendencies. The office staff is rude and condescending, as is the doctor.

I have suffered from TMJ for years, but had a major flare-up. Dr Shaw's office staff got me in quickly for an initial eval. I admit I was hesitant to continue with Dr Shaw's treatment plan due to the cost. (I had no TMJ insurance coverage.) I underwent arthrocentisis, PRP treatment, and splinting with very good results. I wanted to wait to review to see if the results were long lasting and they were! Dr Shaw's splint was phenomenal and provided immediate relief. I continue to wear at night and for any break through pain. (Have had other splints that just seemed to exacerbate my symptoms.) I needed a couple of minor splint adjustments following the procedures, and I was always scheduled quickly. Dr Shaw and his office staff know their stuff! Thank you for helping me be as pain free as possible with a chronic condition!

I had such a fear of getting my wisdom teeth removed for as long as I can remember. Dr. Shah and his staff made it so much easier on myself and getting out of my head. Kimmy was so kind and made me feel like I wasn’t alone when I felt vulnerable and was very conscious of my other medical conditions, I can’t thank this office and staff enough

Cierra and Claressa are amazing! They were both so kind, helpful, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout my visit. I’m really excited to come back and get my implants done here. Highly recommend

I wish I could give zero stars. (TMJ patient) I was issued a refund after being overcharged by over $800 while under Dr. Shah's care once I was told I needed a second procedure and opted to seek a second opinion elsewhere instead. Billing was disorganized and backpedaled during an audit of my account when I was hit with a bill a year and a half after I left AZ Oral. The office staff failed to mention my insurance was out of network when I called to confirm my benefits with them when I reached out to schedule an early 2025 appointment. Dr. Shah told me my jaw clicking and popping could not be fixed, something that I found out to be untrue when I transferred care to the Head Pain Institute. I've been without clicking and popping for over a year now. Dr. Shah left me with a close lock for 8 weeks after an arthrocentesis procedure, causing cavities and costing me thousands in physical therapy and making my condition worse than before I entered his care. The Head Pain Institute unlocked my jaw at my first appointment and set me up with a plan to fix my clicking, pain and popping, something Dr. Shah's arthrocentesis never fixed and was a waste of time and thousands of dollars. I wish I could go back in time and never go to this office. If you have TMJ, be warned.
