About Bliss Family Dental of El Paso Southeast

Bliss Family Dental of El Paso Southeast provides dental care on Gateway Boulevard East in the Mission Valley area of El Paso, Texas. A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. I found the office to be clean and well maintained; however, the professionalism and communication from the staff need significant improvement. Prior to my appointment, the front desk staff stated they could not locate my insurance information. Unfortunately, I was never provided a courtesy call about this issue. I only learned about the problem when I personally called the office to potentially reschedule my appointment. When I asked if I could call back within an hour in case my insurance information was located, the response I received was simply, “I guess that would be alright.” The tone and response felt dismissive and unprofessional. After my cleaning was completed, I was given only a brief explanation from the dentist of his findings and was then walked to the front desk and asked to wait for paperwork regarding the recommended treatment. A staff member called out to me from around the corner. When I approached the front desk, no one greeted me or clarified who had called me, leaving me confused about who I was supposed to speak with. What I found most disappointing was the lack of explanation regarding the recommended procedure. No one reviewed the document with me, explained the treatment plan, or discussed the procedures themselves. The only information provided was what my insurance would cover and what my out-of-pocket cost would be, along with when I could schedule the appointment. Fortunately, my spouse had undergone a similar procedure the week prior and informed me that cavity fillings often involve injections that can leave you unable to speak clearly for a period of time and may require taking the entire day off work. None of this was explained to me by the staff. Without that prior knowledge, I would have been unprepared. Unfortunately, my spouse had a similar experience at this office. He went in for a routine cleaning and ended up having cavities filled the same day without receiving a full explanation of the procedure. Because he was not properly informed, he only took half the morning off work and was not aware he would need the entire day to recover. Clear communication with patients is extremely important, especially when procedures and recovery time may impact work schedules and daily activities. I hope the office improves its patient communication and professionalism moving forward.

The worst! I called and made an appointment for a new patient & cleaning, they scheduled me 3 weeks out. I come ready for my appointment and they say oh we only do the exam today no cleaning. So I came to pay for a Dr to look and say I need a cleaning. And have to come in again to book a cleaning. The dumbest process especially year end appointments when people have met their deductible and are trying to get everything done. The worst and a money hungry bunch, don’t waste your time.

I had a situation where I needed 4 of my front teeth extracted and was leaving on vacation to days following that I was so upset and couldn’t help but cry the Staff went out of their way to make me comfortable and help me and they went out of their way to make sure I left that office the same day with teeth. The doctor did an excellent job and although I was there longer than expected due to them helping me leave with some teeth, the doctor made sure everything from the extractions, bone graph, and bridge placement was completely painless
