General dentistry on Canal Street, Chinatown
Smyleee Rating
Very Good
Bowery Dental is a general dentistry practice located on the second floor of 145 Canal Street in lower Manhattan, at the intersection of Chinatown, the Lower East Side, and Tribeca. The practice provides routine dental care for adults and has maintained a consistent patient base in this part of downtown New York for a number of years.
Services at Bowery Dental cover the full range of general dentistry, including professional dental cleanings, oral examinations, dental X-rays, fillings, and gum health assessment. The clinical team is noted for taking time to explain findings during each appointment, including pointing out areas that may need monitoring in the future, discussing flossing and brushing technique, and flagging potential gum recession or other concerns early.
Emergency dental appointments have been accommodated at this practice, and patients who have experienced urgent tooth problems have been seen without a significant wait when contacting the office on short notice. The dentist, Dr. Song, is noted for thoroughness during examinations and for not rushing patients through appointments even when the schedule is full.
Patients should be aware that the practice operates a multi-chair setup and occasionally sees more than one patient concurrently. This model can occasionally result in waiting between steps of a longer appointment such as a combined cleaning and whitening session. If you have a tight schedule, it is worth asking for an estimated appointment duration when booking.
The practice is on the second floor of the building, accessible by stairs or elevator. Canal Street at the heart of lower Manhattan is served by multiple subway lines, including the J/Z at Canal Street, the 6 at Spring Street, and the N/Q/R/W at Canal Street, making the location reachable from across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
Patients in Chinatown, Tribeca, the Lower East Side, SoHo, or the Financial District who are looking for a long-standing general dentistry practice in lower Manhattan can contact Bowery Dental at the information listed on this page to schedule a cleaning or first-visit appointment.

I had a great experience at this dental clinic. The nurse and the dentist were both very friendly and patient. They explained every step clearly and made sure I understood what was going on. Their caring attitude made me feel relaxed and comfortable during the whole visit. I would definitely recommend this clinic to others.
The best experience I’ve had at a dentist! They’re so kind and informative. I’ve never had a dentist tell me so many things (calling out potential future cavities, teaching flossing technique, telling me about potential gum recession, etc). Every other dentist I’ve had just rotates patients in and out but I can tell Bowery dental really cares. They’re also so nice and it’s a very clean and organized space. Would recommend to anyone
I’ve been to Bowery Dental several times, and up until today my experiences have been excellent, though they have always served multiple patients at once, which sometimes leaves people waiting. Today, however, the delays were unacceptable. My 3:00 PM appointment started 3:20. I then waited 40 minutes between the cleaning and whitening, plus more time while the dentist attended to another patient even as I sat in the chair. Altogether, I was there until 5:20, over two hours, with more than half of that time just waiting. I had booked my appointment with my regular dentist and had not been informed that I would see someone else. The assistant struggled with x-rays, needing several retakes before asking for help. The new dentist I saw wasn’t bad, she asked thoughtful questions and gave detailed guidance. The result wasn’t poor, but I noticed she was less consistent in her execution, missing some areas when flossing and being more thorough on one side of my mouth than the other. I had specifically booked this time because whitening was offered proactively, and I wanted to do both treatments together. If the office couldn’t realistically accommodate that, it would have been better not to offer it. I hope Bowery Dental reconsiders how they schedule and manage treatments so patients don’t spend more time waiting than being treated. Up until now, my experiences here have been excellent, and I’d like to see the practice return to that level of care.
I’ve been going here for years and I cannot recommend enough! They let me play music in my ears as I have extreme anxiety when it comes to dental. They are always gentle and I don’t have not a mean thing to say. You will be more than satisfied if you come to Bowery!!
I have been coming to Bowery Dental for a few years now and had just recently transitioned to seeing Dr. Song. He is very patient and thorough with his exams and I never felt rushed. The staff are all super nice and efficient. They are also very accommodating when I needed an emergency appointment. If you need a new dentist, go see Dr. Song!
