About Burg Childrens Dentistry & Orthodontics - Orchard Drive

Orchard Drive is the road Bountiful actually uses, the north-south line carrying local traffic parallel to I-15, past Mathis Park and the older neighbourhoods on the bench side. Number 3377 sits on it, which makes this a surface-street errand for most of Davis County rather than a freeway trip. Dr. Darin Knudson, DDS heads the office, and the superhero theme runs here as it does across the group, with comic-book decor, screens and a small prize at the end of a visit.

Age changes what an appointment is for more than most parents expect. A toddler gets a short exam, a polish and a fluoride application, while the substantive work happens in the conversation with you: night-time bottles, juice between meals, and the fact that a smear of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice is the right amount before three, not a pea-sized blob. A school-age child gets a full exam, a cleaning, sealants where the permanent molars have deep grooves, and radiographs only once the back teeth touch tightly enough to hide decay between them. Fillings and crowns are done in-house when they are needed.

Fluoride is worth understanding rather than simply accepting. It does not sit on a tooth like a varnish that wears away; it is taken into the surface crystal, producing a mineral that dissolves at a lower pH than the original enamel does, which is why an early chalky white spot can harden again instead of progressing to a cavity. It lowers the rate of decay; it does not license a diet that keeps sugar against teeth all afternoon. Too much of it during the years permanent teeth are forming leaves faint white mottling, which is precisely why the quantities are small and why rinsing gets supervised.

Orthodontic treatment for children, teens and adults runs from the same building. Hours shift day to day and are worth checking before you drive over: 8:30 to 4:30 Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 to 3:00 Tuesday, and 8:00 to 1:30 Friday. Emergency care is available for knocked-out teeth and sudden pain. For Bountiful, Woods Cross, North Salt Lake and Centerville this is a short hop; from inside the Salt Lake valley, the group's Eastgate office on 3900 South is the closer one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same practice as the Burg office in Salt Lake City?
Same brand and same superhero format, separate office with its own team. Dr. Darin Knudson leads this Bountiful clinic at 3377 Orchard Drive; the Eastgate office on 3900 South is the Salt Lake valley location and Hunter Park covers the west side. Pick on drive time rather than anything else: Bountiful serves Davis County, Eastgate is nearer if you live in Millcreek or Holladay.
How much toothpaste should a young child actually use?
Under three, a smear about the size of a grain of rice. From three to six, a pea-sized amount with an adult watching so most of it is spat out rather than swallowed. The point is dose. Fluoride does its work at the tooth surface, so a small amount in contact is enough, while swallowing toothpaste repeatedly during the years permanent teeth are forming can leave faint white marks on them.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
The dose from a modern dental radiograph is very small, and lead aprons and thyroid collars are standard. The more useful question is whether the image will change anything. Bitewings get taken when a child's back teeth touch tightly enough that decay between them cannot be seen or felt with an instrument. If your child still has visible gaps between every tooth, there is often no reason to take them yet.

Wow!!! What a wonderful, fun, sweet dental and ortho clinic! It was my 6 year olds first check up. She did X-rays, they cleaned her teeth, and examined her. My daughter was a little nervous at first but she was so proud of herself! Everyone made her feel special and comfortable AND she is excited to come back! I said what!? No joke. She had the best experience and I’m so glad we chose Burg out of all places! Thank you guys so much! See you in February!

The staff is absolutely wonderful. My toddler was quite scared, but they were gentle and made sure she had a great experience. They kept her entertained with coloring pages while waiting, and she loved the TV on the ceiling while lying in the dentist's chair. The doctor was quick and efficient and made sure to answer questions. They gave my daughter stickers and toy after as a reward.

Best orthodontist EVER!! Took my reluctant teenage daughter who did not want braces and got her done in record time with a beautiful result!! Dr. Welling is truly the best. Connects with kids, knows his stuff, and the staff is so easy to work with. Everything went so smoothly and I will be sending everyone I know here

We've been using Burg for awhile and it has always been a wonderful experience but today was above and beyond. I somehow accidently booked a different location when adding my youngest as a new patient and the team at the bountiful location transfered the appt to their site and fit in my other child in to get them on the same schedule. I was honestly so flustered and they just took care of it and made it a smooth appointment. I so appreciate their kindness and professionalism. Thank you so much to the bountiful and daybreak teams for today.

Staff was so great! The whole experience was so kid friendly and gave both my kids (ages 18months and 2.5 yrs) a pleasant experience! I’d definitely recommend to my family and friends!
