About Calm Dental

Calm Dental operates on South Olive Street in the Downtown Los Angeles area of Los Angeles, California. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. I moved to Pasadena and Dr. Solooki is the only doctor I will still drive downtown for. A friend originally recommended him to me when I moved to LA. He’s so kind, professional, and trustworthy, as are all his staff (and the staff also seem really happy - so I imagine he is a good boss too!). He doesn’t upsell unnecessary procedures and has fair prices. My partner has major anxiety about the dentist and I sent them to him and they had a great experience too; they did a consult first to talk about what they need to be comfortable before actually doing the dental work. The downtown location might seem inconvenient, but they validate parking in a nearby garage (which is tricky to find, so I’d suggest calling ahead for details if it’s your first time). I jump at chances to recommend them to anyone I hear looking for a dentist because I hope they stay in business for a long time.

Dr Solookie is the best dentist I’ve ever had. I’m a senior and he approaches dentistry “old school”. He is funny but a true professional. He has done nearly everything you can have done including cleaning (with tools), filling, extraction(s) and making an upper denture. He is currently making me a partial denture for my lower. Everything Dr Says looking and his staff have done for me has been painless, efficient, cost effective and long lasting. I recommend him whole heartedly. He is conveniently in the Biltmore block DTLA and has parking! Give him a try. R

Everything about Calm Dental is absolutely wonderful. Parking is validated and therefore made stress free, they schedule effectively so you aren’t waiting and waiting. Relaxed, nonjudgmental care from everyone in the office. Dr. Solooki is kind, hilarious, thoughtful and diligent in his work. I could not be happier to have been referred and wish this experience for everyone!

If you’re looking for a Dentist in the DTLA area, Calm Dental should certainly be an option to consider. Dr. Solooki and his staff have consistently delivered excellent service and over the past 12 years Dr. Solooki has done an excellent job with all my dental needs. Most recently, my daughter had an emergency and the staff was quick to aid us with an emergency visit. I’m really happy with Calm Dental and recommend it to anyone in search of a dentist. They certainly strive towards making all their patients feel welcome.
