About Carolina Family Dentistry-Dr. Ron Banik

Tucked behind the Northwoods retail spread in upper North Charleston, North Park Boulevard belongs to the Rivers Avenue and Ashley Phosphate grid, an area of subdivisions, chain stores and short drives rather than historic streetscape. For families in Northwoods, Ladson, Hanahan or Goose Creek it is an easy, low-traffic trip. For anyone coming from the peninsula or Mount Pleasant it is a deliberate one. Check the schedule before you plan around it: the office is open Tuesday through Thursday from eight to five and Friday from eight until three, and closed on Mondays.

The practice has stood here in one form or another since 1961, and it is built for households rather than isolated procedures, with children, teenagers, working adults and older patients on the same book. Dr. Ron Banik leads a team the office describes as carrying more than a hundred years of combined experience between them. The stated clinical priority is nervous patients: people whose last appointment ended badly and who have let a decade pass since. Care for dental phobia here is described as behavioural as much as pharmacological, meaning slower appointments and explanation before instruments.

Restorative work covers fillings, crowns, bridges, implants and full-mouth reconstruction, with oral surgery, extractions and wisdom tooth removal handled on site rather than referred out. Periodontal care includes scaling and root planing, a deep cleaning below the gumline that removes hardened deposits from the root surface itself, performed under local anaesthetic and usually split across two visits. Cosmetic options run to veneers, composite bonding, professional whitening and staged smile makeovers, and preventive care covers cleanings, fluoride and the routine examinations that catch problems while they are still small.

A quieter strength is the jaw and sleep side: deprogrammers and nightguards for patients who grind, and custom oral appliances for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Intraoral cameras, digital radiography and digital scanners mean you can generally see the tooth under discussion on a screen instead of taking it on trust, and impressions for crowns and appliances are increasingly taken by scan rather than by tray. Urgent problems are worked into the open days as emergencies.

A North Charleston family practice near Northwoods, in operation since 1961 and open Tuesday through Friday, treating children through older adults on one book. Nervous and long-lapsed patients are a stated priority, with restorative work from fillings to full-mouth reconstruction, in-house oral surgery and wisdom tooth removal, periodontal deep cleaning, cosmetic dentistry, and nightguards and appliances for grinding and sleep apnea.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the North Park Boulevard office open on Mondays?
No. Carolina Family Dentistry runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from eight to five and Friday from eight until three, and is closed Monday and at weekends. That four-day pattern is worth planning around, particularly for school-age children, where a Friday afternoon appointment avoids missing a whole day of classes. Urgent problems are worked into the open days as emergency slots rather than held to the next routine opening.
What is scaling and root planing, and why is it not just a cleaning?
A routine cleaning removes deposits from the visible tooth surface above the gumline. Scaling and root planing goes below it, clearing hardened calculus from the root itself and smoothing the surface so the gum can reattach. It is done under local anaesthetic, usually across two visits treating half the mouth each time, and it is the standard first response to periodontal pocketing. The maintenance cleanings afterwards are part of the treatment, not optional extras.
I am genuinely frightened of the dentist. Will that be taken seriously here?
The practice names nervous patients as a priority and treats fear as a scheduling and communication problem as much as a clinical one, with longer appointments and explanation before instruments. If you have not been seen in years, say so when you book rather than in the chair. It changes how much time is set aside for the first visit and removes the awkwardness of having to explain yourself once treatment has started.

Dr. Banik came highly recommended from my friend. I visited him for the first time for a tooth I broke on a Monday. He and his staff were great and got me in the next day. I just got back from having a temporary crown placed and they did a great job. I have never minded teeth cleanings but have dreaded going to the dentist for cavities etc. Dr. Banik and his team were great! Glad to have a dentist closer to my home! I would definitely recommend Dr.Banik and team!!!

Dr. Ron and his team are the best. I’ve spent more time in dental offices than I’d like to admit, and despite doing all the things to care for my teeth, I always seem to need some kind of work done. That said, I’m so grateful to have finally found a dental home. If I ever move away, I will absolutely fly back to see Dr. Ron — and I’m not joking. As a veteran, I also truly appreciate being able to find a high-quality dentist and team who are willing to work with the VA. I know that process isn’t always the easiest, and it means a lot that they are willing to navigate it. If you’re looking for quality dental care, I highly recommend Dr. Ron and his team. Linda, one of the hygienists, is always wonderful to chat with, and Ashley at the front desk is fantastic as well. I even had to bring my daughter with me to one of my appointments, and the team checked in on her throughout my visit. I also really appreciate that they have a small play area for children in the office — any parent will understand how helpful that is. Salute again to Dr. Ron and the entire team. I’m looking forward to getting my daughter scheduled for her cleaning soon. 😊

Thank you Dr. Banik, your team and staff for taking such good care of me and making me feel at ease. I've always had high anxiety when it came to dental work but as I expressed my concerns, you all assured me that I was in good hands and you all will make my visit(s) a pleasant experience and that it was. I am so thankful that my good friend referred me to Carolina Family Dentistry.

Second visit in this office and I must say I made the right choice! So far so good. My hygienist (Sarah I believe) was very thorough with my cleaning and answered every question I had with ease also had a sack of giggles that we shared durning my cleaning. Dr Banik is awesome you can tell he really cares and makes sure your teeth are in the best condition. He is also very nice and very thorough and he listens! The whole staff so far has been nice, funny and cheerful and I’m glad the referral to be seen by him!
