About Casas Adobes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Casas Adobes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a dental practice on North Swan Road in the Old Fort Lowell area of Tucson, Arizona. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. No. Wisdom teeth that come through cleanly, in a good position, and can be kept clean are often left alone. Removal is generally advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most of the swelling and discomfort settles within about a week, with the first two or three days the most noticeable. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth generally takes longer to recover from than a simple extraction.
Why do dentists take X-rays?
Decay between teeth and problems below the gumline are invisible to the naked eye, so X-rays are what reveal them. Modern digital images use a low dose and are taken only when clinically justified.

Staff was extremely rude. They did not communicate with me, they gaslit me, they did not listen to me. The staff was unprofessional. They crossed my boundaries in my most vulnerable state. This is my 4th experience with CAOS, and each has been unacceptable with the lack of professionalism, lack of patient care and comfort, lack of communication, etc. They turned a routine procedure into a traumatic experience resulting in a PTSD diagnosis requiring intensive psychiatric care. I left feeling completely violated, betrayed, panicked, and in severe pain that was never addressed. They did not provide any post operative instructions and literally said “good luck”. Not sure if any of this qualifies as malpractice, but I will never recommend CAOS to anyone for any reason.

This is a great place to go if you need this type of dental care. The staff are competent, friendly and kind. I received excellent care and my questions were answered clearly and respectfully. Dr. Kaiser did a professional assessment of my situation, laid out my options and I left the office feeling well informed and with the cost information I needed to decide on the right course of action for me. I know from past experience with them that I will get excellent care when I go back for the procedure.

I had such a WONDERFUL experience at Casas Adobes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as I took a friend there for a consultation. The entire staff was so very kind and attentive. Each person I interacted with was fully present and easy to interact with. They treated my friend with kindness, compassion and dignity. My friend left feeling very seen, heard and well cared for. She is looking forward to her treatments with this practice. Dr. Casteel was patient and gentle and took the time to explain the upcoming procedure and addressed the concerns and questions with loving kindness. I would recommend this practice to everyone I come in contact with seeking oral surgery.

Pros: My experience at Casas Adobe Oral and Maxillary Surgery has been exceptionally positive, largely thanks to Dr. Prokes. She is an absolutely wonderful doctor who manages to be highly efficient without sacrificing patient care. Even though I am just at the beginning stages of getting my dental implants, she completed the entire initial procedure in under an hour. Throughout the appointment, she took the time to explain everything thoroughly, letting me know exactly what she was doing every single step of the way. It is rare to find a surgeon who is both incredibly quick and genuinely communicative. Cons: The only minor drawback is the physical location of the office in Tucson, Arizona, which can be a little tricky to navigate to if you are unfamiliar with the area. However, this slight inconvenience has absolutely no bearing on the outstanding quality of service provided by the staff and doctors once you arrive. Overall: If you are considering dental implants, this is the perfect practice for you. Dr. Prokes is simply the best, seamlessly combining speed with excellent patient care and step-by-step communication. While the office might take an extra moment to find, the top-tier oral surgery experience makes the trip totally worth it. I highly recommend them to anyone beginning their implant journey.

Was scared to death to have a tooth removed that was broken off at the gumline. The Dr got me through the needle part & then it was smooth, quick sailing. Heard some strange noises & downward pushing pressure, but NO PAIN whatsoever & was totally surprised when they said I was all done & could go! Opened my eyes then & gave the Dr heartfelt thanks & boogied outta there!
