About Center City Emergency Dentist
Center City Emergency Dentist operates on Walnut Street in the Center City West area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Emergency dental care covers sudden problems that will not wait for a routine appointment — severe pain, a knocked-out or fractured tooth, swelling, or a lost filling that leaves a tooth exposed. Same-day or urgent appointments are the point of an emergency service, rather than the standard multi-week booking window.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. Amazing, quick service! Wonderful staff & modern technology with high quality care.
The facility is clean. The staff is efficient and friendy. I am glad I found the office. Dr. Tumillo is excellent. Thanks
The staff were welcoming and professional. Little to no pain and a quick appointment.
First I wanna say that I am grateful for the human experience I received from the lower staff. But the moment the Doctor walked in, it started to feel predatory. I walked in with a SEVERE toothache. Forget trying to get me set up to remove that tooth. He was more interested in doing all four wisdom teeth and doing an implant. I mean, I appreciated his concern but I know he wasn’t genuinely concerned. No doctor with a heart would have allowed any patient to walk out without extracting that wisdom tooth that was causing severe pain. On top of that he prescribed Ibuprofen and antibiotics without even coming to speak with me on the path forward. It cost 500+ out of pocket to extract one tooth and 1100+ to extract all four. Mind you, the antibiotics and 800mg!!!Ibuprofen isn’t working because the pain is so severe and I am not about to deteriorate my health with these prescription drugs. The whole experience just felt like a I’m buying a car instead of being offered care. I appreciated the warmth of the young ladies and the modern radiation equipment but overall, I guess it’s a place for the GenX and Z millionaires that live in the city, unfortunately I am not in the bracket, yet. It’s a place for people who can spend $3500 without second thought. I hate to think that is who that Doctor (who looks like he is just sniffing for Jackpot) is expecting there. While I appreciate the smile of the young ladies I will have a very hard time recommending this place to anyone.
When I walked into the office I was greeted with a smile and respect. I love how the office look. But what won me over was Amy, she made me feel real comfortable and Amy had all the answers to my questions. And on top of it Amy gave me words of encouragement.
Dr. Tummillo is THE BEST dentist!!!! I’ve had several procedures done by him within last 6 months for a complicated tooth and he’s ALWAYS been so kind, gentle, professional, quick but thorough, and patient with all my questions. You can tell he’s very experienced, you don’t feel a single thing when he’s doing procedures! My tooth is all fixed now and I’m soo extremely happy with the results (especially cuz it’s a front tooth). It’s been a long process with this tooth but he’s been so amazing! I even sent my husband to him for his root canal and he said the same thing. Would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him! Thanks Dr. Tummillo!
Very good experience overall. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful from the woman at the front desk to the doc that helped me and his awesome assistant (can't remember her name right now, but she was great). Dr. Huergo was awesome. Considering this was the first time I had a tooth extraction. He was very professional and put my mind at ease and explained everything to me up front and honestly. I would and will be going back to CCED from now on for any dental work I need. Thank you so much for making the horror movie in my head feel like a walk in the park 🙏 👍 💯 😁
I wanted to wait to write this review because from beginning to end, and still ongoing, the care, service, just the entire experience is truly phenomenal!!! From the hospitable ladies checking you in, down to nurses, doctors, and even office managers making sure that your needs are met, your worries eased and pockets are happy. I had to get two teeth extracted, took only 30 mins and my healing was super quick and painless. Highly recommend this place! Haven’t met a team so dedicated to their craft and patients it’s truly refreshing coming back to be seen
I can’t express how deeply my anxiety is, when it comes to dental work (and doctors offices in general). I put off much-needed dental work until I no longer could. I woke up this morning in extensive pain, and knew that I had a dental infection of some kind. Lack of empathy is the #1 reason why I avoid dentists. I also have sensory issues and dislike being touched. At the end of my emergency visit, I asked Amy (the treatment coordinator) for a hug, because I was so blown away by the incredible kindness and support I received, not just from her but the whole staff. She obliged 🤗! I haven’t had my surgery yet, but I know I’ll be in great hands. Oh! And she did her very best to keep the costs low. She’s a really genuine and kind person. 5 stars all around!
I took my teen here for an emergency. I called in and got a quick same day appointment. The staff were polite and professional. Dr.Carlos Huergo was personable and he helped my teen and myself feel comfortable. I appreciate how he dosed the laughing gas because my teen was normal afterward. My only concern were the x-rays. I don’t like exposing my children to radiation unless very serious. If they could provide vest to help protect the body from the radiation that would be exceptional. I would recommend this place for emergencies.
I want to give a special shout out to Amy who was working at the front desk. Her customer service skills were out of this world and helped me resolve a billing issue. I truly appreciate her patience and kindness she showed me!
