About Central Avenue Dentistry

Central Avenue Dentistry sits on Central Avenue in Birmingham's Homewood-adjacent corridor, in the residential stretch where the city's southern neighborhoods transition into the inner suburbs. The patient base is the surrounding Homewood, Edgewood, and southern Birmingham community — working professionals, families with kids, and the multi-generational households that anchor the area's stable residential blocks.

Routine fillings make up a regular share of the schedule. The team uses tooth-colored composite as the default for most cases, handling single-surface fillings for early-stage decay, multi-surface restorations on larger cases, replacement work when older fillings have failed, and the structural call between filling and crown when more tooth material has been lost. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings and exams, root canals, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease screening, teeth whitening, and emergency dental care. They'll walk through cost-tier options when several treatment paths are clinically reasonable rather than defaulting to the most expensive recommendation.

If you've been waiting on a filling because you weren't sure what the cost would be, a comprehensive new-patient exam here usually combines the diagnostic with the price discussion in one visit.

Patients searching for family dental practice in Birmingham, family dentist in Birmingham, or general dentistry in Birmingham, AL who live in Homewood, Edgewood, or south Birmingham often weigh practices like this one for the corridor proximity. Central Avenue Dentistry fits that pattern. The new-patient exam combines comprehensive radiographs, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan walkthrough before any restorative work is scheduled. For Homewood-corridor families picking a regular general dental practice, this Central Avenue office is a sensible first appointment. For patients who grind their teeth or notice signs of nighttime clenching, flagging it at the new-patient exam matters more than most realize, since wear patterns affect filling material choices and crown planning over time. Bringing prior X-rays and treatment records from a previous dentist usually saves a redundant imaging round at the new-patient exam and gives the team baseline context to compare against current findings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Central Avenue Dentistry located in Birmingham?
Central Avenue Dentistry is on Central Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama (35209).
What days is Central Avenue Dentistry open?
Central Avenue Dentistry is open Monday through Thursday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Central Avenue Dentistry offer?
Listed services at Central Avenue Dentistry include Cosmetic Dentistry, Root Canal Treatment, Emergency Dentistry, Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges. The full list is shown on this page.
How long does a dental bridge last?
Many last around a decade or more, and the main threat is decay or gum disease affecting the supporting teeth rather than the bridge itself failing. Cleaning underneath it properly is what makes the difference.
Why do my gums bleed even though I brush twice a day?
Bleeding usually reflects where you are cleaning rather than how often. Plaque left along the gumline and between teeth causes inflammation there, which is exactly the area brushing alone tends to miss, so flossing or interdental brushes matter.
What are the early signs of gum disease?
Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing, redness and puffiness along the gumline, and persistent bad breath are the usual first indicators. Bleeding is the one most often dismissed, and it is the clearest early warning.

Great experience. Dr Maniscalco and staff were professional, informative and thorough. Took time to make sure all questions were answered and concerns were addressed. When I left, I felt like I had a competent and caring dentist. Would definitely recommend.

I have been a patient at Central Avenue Dentistry since moving to the area in early 2021. I am favorably impressed with the entire team. Recently I needed major dental work. Dr Maniscalco explained my options carefully and I was made aware of the costs before beginning with the dental work. I also am made to feel comfortable when I arrive. The staff calls me by my name and treat me as if I am the most important person they are treating. I highly recommend this practice.

Had a wonderful experience today! I hadn’t been to the dentist in over 10 years, and was super nervous (and expected) I’d leave sore, with bleeding gums and lots of tenderness. That was not the case at all! I had John, who cleaned my teeth among other things that needed to be done and he was incredibly gentle, professional, welcoming and communicative. He explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it, with an air of humor, which made me even more comfortable in the chair. My fiancé and I will 100% be using Central Avenue Dentistry for all of our dental needs going forward!

Dr. Chelsea Is the best dentist in the Homewood area. She is very thorough and will take time to explain everything that is going on. Everybody that works at the office is so nice. They greet you with a smile. I enjoy coming to see them. The office is always clean. If you are looking for a great dentist and exceptional service you should check them out. 10/10. 🤩

My husband and I were tired of corporate dentistry and wanted to find a good dentist in private practice. We found it at Central Avenue Dentistry. I was so thankful to meet Dr. Maniscalco. She was recommended to me by friends, and I was hesitant to call to make an appointment for an issue (broken tooth) without having been a patient. However, she saw me immediately. Her staff is excellent, as well. Even the office manager at the front who took my insurance information was really efficient in checking my policy and providing payment information. I left feeling really confident about the treatment plan and happy to be under the care of a capable, consistent, and very kind dentist.

I called Dr. Chelsea (sorry, I’ve forgotten how to spell her last name!) afraid I had an infection and worried about not being seen until after the holiday break. She offered to meet me at the office just to make sure everything was OK.. In general, she is very knowledgeable and professional. I have referred all my family members to her.

Another exceptional experience by the Team! After losing a crown, I was able to be seen the same day. This was very important as it was revealed during my visit that a root canal might be required. The Team smoothly managed my expedited referral to a local endodontist, where it was revealed that a root canal was required. Post root canal, within several days the Team was able to get me back in to receive a new crown—-which has much better fit and feel. Quality experience throughout. In my 50 years receiving dental care, my two years of dental care from the Team has been some of the VERY BEST dental care I have experienced!

Dr Maniscalco is one of the most caring dentists I have ever seen. She actually takes care of my 91 yo Mom and has just done a magnificent job with her. Respectful, kind and extremely fair. Would not want anyone else caring for my precious Mom!
