About Central Connecticut Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery

Central Connecticut Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery provides dental care on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Oral surgery covers procedures beyond routine treatment — surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, implant placement, and bone grafting among the more common ones. The distinguishing feature is generally that tissue is opened and closed as part of the procedure, rather than treated at the surface.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers surgical conditions of the face, jaw, and mouth, from wisdom teeth and jaw realignment through to facial trauma and reconstruction, carried out by surgeons trained in both dentistry and surgery.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Howard at age 19 an my oh my was everyone there a delight. You always hear stories about how recovery can be a dread and it was especially the dry socket I was worried about. Everyone, especially Dr. Howard made me feel very comfortable when I went into sedation. Post surgery, there was some normal oozing, but no pain, they 100% know what they are doing. My left side was definitely more impacted so there was some slight pressure, but no pain. My right side? You could have told me he didn't even work on it, it was pain and pressure free. They give you thorough steps to streamline your recovery, and if you follow those, you will most likely find this to be a delightful experience (well, as delightful as a surgery can be). I can't recommend Dr. Howard enough. He is a very intelligent and thorough Doctor with patient care skills you wouldn't normally see in a Doctor. I would also like to give a thank you to the rest of the staff for their caring and ability to make me as comfortable as possible. And another big thank you to Dorothy, who was an absolute delight, from the pre-surgery requirements, regarding insurance and what to do before anesthesia. Any time I had a question, she would have or find the answer immediately and was unbelievably helpful. Once again thank you to Dr. Howard and his staff for an amazing wisdom teeth removal. I'm currently a month post surgery and have had ZERO COMPLICATIONS.

I was nervous and expecting my son to be in so much pain and miserable but that was the complete opposite. I am a paranoid mother but I felt okay once I saw a familiar face and then the procedure didn't last as long as I thought. We were out of there within an hour. My son had four wisdom teeth removed and he still has not complained of any pain. Only light nausea which was addressed right away by the staff. From consultation to leaving after the procedure everyone was amazing! I forgot her name but one of the assistants walked my son all the way to the car for me and I had repeated questions and she answered all of them without seaming annoyed. Thank you to all the staff who answered my multiple questions. Even stayed on the phone with me for at least 30 minutes to make sure I got his after care correct. If I ever need more services then I will come here and I will recommend anyone else to come here as well.

I had a broken infected molar and was in a lot of pain. Dr Howard hit it with local anasthetic and extracted it, I didn't feel a single thing. Golden hands, this guy is gifted. The supporting staff is the friendliest and most helpful I've ever interacted with at a medical office, they will help you feel at ease.

I had such a great experience! From the moment I walked in, they made me feel comfortable and taken care of. They did an amazing job—truly a 10/10 service. What stood out the most was how much they genuinely cared. They took the time to talk with me, explain everything, and even gave me really helpful advice for aftercare, which I appreciated a lot. You can tell they know what they’re doing and want the best results for their clients. I left feeling informed, and really happy with how everything turned out. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for quality service!

I was dreading having two teeth extracted. I made my appointment with Dr. Howard with more than a little bit of apprehension. I did the procedure under sedation and it was painless and it seemed to be done very quickly. In fact, I mumbled "you have to do the other one" to Dr. Howard and he laughingly assured me that he did both. It has been a few weeks and it is healing very well. Doris at the front desk is a joy on the phone and to greet you when you arrive. Also, Amanda is an absolute SWEETHEART. She works wonders taking your mind off of the fact that you're there for oral surgery. Highly recommended.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. From the initial consult to follow up appointment Dr. Howard and his staff were very professional and kind. The actual procedure took only 30 minutes. The office even called me later in the day to check on how things were going. I would highly recommend Dr. Howard and his team.

I put off my wisdom teeth removal for years due to my anxiety as they were complicated extractions. Majority of dentist/surgeons refused my removals due to the risk of hitting a nerve but Dr. Howard was confident and did an amazing job. Dr. Howard and his staff were so kind and understanding throughout the whole process. I truly appreciate them for their patience and their professionalism. 10/10 would recommend.
