About Chandler Implants & Periodontics
Chandler Implants & Periodontics provides dental care on West Chandler Boulevard in Chandler, Arizona. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.
Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.
Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. VERY NICE DENTIST!!! Dr. Johnston has excellent bedside manner. He took his time to explain everything to me - I didn’t feel rushed at all. Before he left the room, he even asked me: Do you have any other questions for me? Every doctor should be like that. My wife was there with me and she felt the same way. He shook hands with both of us and greeted us with a welcoming smile. Thank you doctor! You deserve five stars!
The doctor did a bone graph which I thought was due to severe infection. No, it is standard practice for them and not neccessary. My dental insurance stated they have never covered this procedure and the dentist knows those codes aren't covered. The office manager was rude in every interaction I had with her. I asked to speak with someone outside of her due to her behavior and for lying to me. She refused to give me a number to report her and she continued to communicate with her signature removed and switched with office manager. I returned a week later extremely unhappy that I was actively spitting the bone graph out. I stated I was charged $500 for a treatment that not only wasn't necessary but spitting $500 out of my mouth a week later was wrong. They led me to believe the bone graph was medically necessary and not that it was just standard practice. It was that my insurance should cover the second $500 BUT if they don't then that would be another $500 out of pocket.I let her know I was going to do a review and I would love to share her response. I was led to believe these procedures were medically necessary for my specific case, rather than standard practice. - Yes, when we remove a tooth from any patient it is our standard of care to always graft the site to ensure proper healing. My primary goal was simply to have the tooth removed to stop the pain. - You definitely have the free will to express that you'd only like to have the tooth removed with no grafting. Had that been part of the conversation we would have been perfectly fine providing you with a referral to a local Doctor who'd be able to do that for you. I feel I was knowingly misled. - I'm sorry you feel misled but insurance companies mislead offices and patients. I returned to the office because I was actively spitting out the bone graft, there was no documentation regarding the reason for that visit. - That's extremely common, the Doctor ALWAYS overpacks the site. That's not something to be concerned about which is likely why it wasn't documented. It was never explained to me that these extra treatments were optional; - You are referring to the bone graft and membrane that holds the bone graft in place as "extra procedures" or "optional" they are not extra, optional, or considered "add ons" they are recommended surgical treatment from a trained provider that deemed it necessary for your case. As stated previously, if just removing the tooth and leaving a hole behind was acceptable treatment that you would have been happy with, we have a great office that could have done that for you. It's just not something our Doctor's are willing to do because at the end of the day it is their license and their responsibility to treat each patient with the highest standard of care they can provide. They have the right of refusal which is the first few sentences on the signed section of the treatment plan which states "I understand that the treatment plan presented to me is based on the Doctors standard of care for treatment and the procedures and products used to perform my procedure are not negotiable. My treatment plan can only be changed by the Doctor prior to or during the procedure being performed. The patient will always have the last say on their treatment and have the freedom of choice and the ability to go wherever they'd like if they don't agree with the recommended treatment prior to those services being rendered.I am disappointed by these business practices and intend to share my experience so others can avoid similar situations. - I'm sorry you feel this way. Slander is never the answer and honestly helps no one. I hope you find it in your heart to reconsider as we did the best we could to prepare you for your treatment and cost estimate. In addition, Delta actually held you responsible for a much higher bill but I honored the contracted rates as quoted to you as a courtesy because I didn't feel right billing you that amount. Sincerely, Hopefully this reaches above the office manager since she refuses to share. -Management Chandler Implants
Great first visit! The staff was so pleasant and informative. I arrived early and was seen by Dr Johnston almost immediately. He was so pleasant, kind and explained everything. He put me at ease right away. Can you imagine looking forward to going back for the procedure? I do !! My second visit was great. The procedure was done in a short time. Dr. Johnston was kind, very pleasant, explained everything that would happen and what to expect afterward. I felt very comfortable the whole. Again, he, and his staff were most professional and kind. Have already recommended Chandler Implants & Periodontics to others.
They have been taking care of my teeth and gums for the past 20 years. I go four times a year and I have never had anything to complain about. They are pleasant and professional, and I highly recommend them.
From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and modern this office is. The staff was incredibly friendly and got me checked in right away. Estrella & Dr. Johnston were very kind, thoroughly explained my situation, and made sure I understood everything going on. While they ultimately couldn't do the procedure I required, their professionalism and care were top-notch. Highly recommend!
Great place, nice people, knowledgeable. Keeps my gums and teeth healthy. I alternate between this office and my general dentist. They work well together. I highly recommend.
The staff was friendly and caring. Dr Johnston was tremendous - very knowledgeable and explained things to me in depth while making me feel at ease. Very good experience.
I've been a patient here for over 3 years. I am so comfortable here. Dr. Johnston is both professional and funny. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The dental assistants are great! I've had a couple intense procedures, as well as, my regular cleanings. It's all good. I highly recommend this group in Chandler for periodontal care.
