About Charleston Center for Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry | Dr. John F. Rink, DDS, AAACD
Gamecock Avenue sits in the quiet commercial pocket of West Ashley just across the Ashley River from the peninsula, close enough to downtown that a lunchtime appointment is realistic, far enough out that you park in a lot instead of circling for a metered space. That matters more than it sounds when the work you have come for is a multi-visit cosmetic case. The office keeps a Monday-through-Thursday schedule, nine to five, which suits people planning treatment in advance rather than dropping in on a Friday afternoon.
This is a practice built around elective cosmetic and restorative dentistry rather than high-volume general care. Dr. John F. Rink is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a credential fewer than 450 dentists worldwide hold, and he teaches at the Medical University of South Carolina's College of Dental Medicine. The practice states he has placed more than 15,000 veneers across a career spanning four decades. The emphasis is on minimal-preparation and no-prep veneer technique, meaning as little enamel is removed as possible before the porcelain is bonded. That approach is not universally applicable, and it is worth knowing why: no-prep only works when your existing teeth sit slightly inside where the finished smile needs to be. Teeth that are already crowded or protrusive still require reduction, or orthodontics first.
Restorative work runs deeper than the cosmetics. Implants, implant-supported dentures, crowns and bridges, root canals and full-mouth reconstruction are all handled here, alongside CEREC for crowns milled in the office rather than sent to a laboratory. Bruxism appliances and oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea sit next to routine cleanings, exams and oral cancer screening, so a patient who arrives for veneers can keep everything else under one roof.
Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are both offered, so a long reconstruction appointment does not have to be broken into fragments.
Fees for this kind of dentistry are not modest, and the office does not pretend otherwise; its own phrase for the philosophy is elite, not elitist. If you want a single filling replaced, a general practice nearer home will serve you better. If you are weighing a full upper arch of veneers or rebuilding a worn bite, this is an office where that conversation is routine.
A West Ashley practice devoted to elective cosmetic and restorative dentistry, led by a dentist accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry who also teaches at MUSC and works largely in minimal-preparation porcelain. Implants, implant-supported dentures, CEREC same-day crowns and full-mouth reconstruction are handled in house, with nitrous oxide and oral sedation available for longer appointments.

20 years now with beautiful teeth after Dr. Rink replaced my front 6 damaged teeth with porcelain veneers. They still look perfect. Dr. Rink and his staff are dedicated professionals!
Lauren is an excellent dental hygienist. Very professional, interested in me beyond my teeth and friendly on top of all that . Dr Rink is a first class dentist who also cares about his patients . The entire office staff are helpful and friendly
Dr.Rink and his team are amazing- attention to detail! Thank you !!
I took poor care of my teeth for a long long time and knew I wanted and needed a new solution. I did my research and landed at the doorstep of Charleston Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, and from the moment I walked in the door, the entire staff was on the ball, never without a smile, and made me feel like family. After visit #1, Dr. Rink, his team, and I had collaborated on a customized solution specifically designed for me! 44 days and several visits later, I walked out with a tear in my eye as Dr. Rink and his staff had accomplished their goal. The single most common phrase I heard from Dr. Rink on my visits was "You are in charge, we are your servants"........it couldn't be more true......Thank you to the entire team that worked with me - Sheralyn! 💙 Sarah! 💙 Amanda! 💙 I had a million questions and the three of them answered every one! ......Lauren you're the best 💙thanks for getting my gums back in shape! Finally......to the two that spent so so many hours with me and were my Dynamic Duo - Megan! & Dr. Rink! 🙏💙🙏💙🙏........On the front of Charleston Center for Cosmetic Dentistry's website it says: "Elite, Not Elitist"......so very true.......to the entire Rink Team, thanks for the happy tears and see ya soon! Update 2/7/25......Google only allows one review per user per business.......so I just added on to the original! Thanks Marlene! You are dynamite and thanks for the tips and pointers you provided yesterday on my first visit following my successful restoration process last fall! It was great to see the whole team again! Everyone stopped by and said hello which was so great. Have a great 2025, see ya soon! It took me 58 years to "not dread" going to the dentist! Ha! Update 6/2/25: Returned For my 2nd check up with my new smile and Marlene gave me high grades...... although we did pick a couple small things to work on to get me from A-/B+ up to an A+++......I feel great with my new smile and people always ask "Where'd you get that done?" & I always say "There may be many different places to choose from, but I know for sure I chose the right one!!" So for those who are looking for a new smile, Charleston Center for Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry is unequivocally the place to go! 9/13/25: One year down the road and couldn't be happier with Dr. Rink and his team! Great operation! Even better people! Thanks! 4/20/26: Great visit, great team! Colleen was awesome! Thanks for everything! 7/27/26: Great visit again! Thanks Lauren! Happy Summer to Team Rink!
Impeccable. That's the best way to describe this Office and their team. First impressions, you walk in the door and it smells fresh. It looks like a surgical room or a clean room. Sarah will greet you in an extremely kind and professional manner. I was referred here by one of their employees I'm familiar with. Amanda certainly didn't steer me wrong. It would be too much to explain everything in a review here but I promise you, you won't find anything like this place in the Low Country. Dr. Rink Apart from his Experience and professionalism is a listener. That's very important because we need to be heard. That impressed me right off the bat. The equipment and systems in this office are top-notch state of the Art. If it was Appropriate I would post my phone number so anyone wished to call me direct and I could explain more. I absolutely 100% highly recommend You pay a visit to this office. Keep Smiling 😀
Dr Rink and the hygienist who cleaned my teeth are both wonderful. Unfortunately they did not disclose that you had to pay up front and will bill your insurance. This is a major inconvenience. When I asked initially if they had my insurance on file they replied with yes and just said that will be x amount of dollars. The hygienist felt awful and expressed her desire to make it better, of course this was not her fault. Additionally, they broke a partial I’ve had for over 5 years with no acknowledgement. They took a $125 deposit for an appointment to put toward my appointment which didn’t happen. I’d recommend doc and the hygienist as people, but certainly not the practice operating procedures.
I saw Dr. Rink for the first time yesterday for a routine visit and had a wonderful experience. The scheduler is great, and he and Lauren were both very thorough with the exam/cleaning. You can tell they genuinely care about their patients. Happy to have found this practice!
I’ve been to a lot of dentists over the years due to ongoing struggles with my teeth since childhood, and I can confidently say Dr. Rink is the most kind, attentive, and skilled dentist I’ve ever seen. At 31, I finally decided it was time to invest in loving my smile instead of continuing to put “band-aids” on issues I’d ignored for years and smiling without showing my teeth in pictures. It was really important to me that the final result still look natural, just better. Dr. Rink understood that immediately. The results are beautiful, and I’ve received so many compliments since having the work done. What I appreciate most is that Dr. Rink emphasizes long-term oral health and gives honest, direct feedback about what’s possible and what your options are. He never overpromises and seeks to guide you thoughtfully toward the best longterm outcome. I also have significant dental anxiety, and everyone in the office makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. They offer neck pillows, blankets, and nitrous oxide, which made a huge difference during longer procedures. One thing that really stood out to me was that at my most recent appointment, Dr. Rink noticed an issue I’ve tried to explain to other dentists for years, food getting lodged between two specific teeth and repeatedly cutting my gums. No one had ever addressed it before. He saw it immediately and adjusted it so it would no longer happen. That level of attention to detail meant so much to me. He truly goes above and beyond in patient care, and I could not be happier with my results. Thank you, Dr. Rink and the entire team, for everything you’ve done! Posting 3 after photos and 1 before photo for your reference!
Dr. Rink has a beautiful practice and wonderful staff that treat you kindly from the moment you walk in the door. Sarah, Lauren, and Amber are warm and friendly folks to meet. I was offered a refreshment multiple times, and I really appreciated the hospitality. I was very impressed by the lengths that Dr. Rink has gone to ensure that he stays current with the best practices, techniques, and technology. His passion for what he does really shows during his meticulous examination of your smile. Dr. Rink was able to figure out a way to improve my smile and jawline without surgery! What a blessing. I cannot wait to get started with my treatment. Lastly, I live over an hour away from the office, but it was so worth the drive and time spent. Do give them a call for your consultation!
