Charlotte Community Health Clinic is a community health center on Medical Plaza Drive in the University City area of northeast Charlotte, North Carolina. The center provides dental care alongside broader health services for patients across the surrounding communities.
The dental side of the center covers general dentistry — comprehensive examinations, professional cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, and treatment for tooth decay and gum disease. Consistent preventive care is the most dependable way to keep teeth and gums healthy and to catch small problems early.
As a community health center, the clinic is set up to make care accessible, with a clear emphasis on affordable dental care for patients across a range of incomes and coverage situations. Patients are encouraged to contact the clinic directly to confirm current eligibility, what documentation is needed, and what coverage or fee schedule applies.
Because the clinic operates as part of a wider community health organization, dental care can sit alongside other health services for patients and families.
Patients are advised to confirm their appointment shortly beforehand, since scheduling at a busy community clinic can shift, and to follow up directly if they do not hear back on a request.
A new-patient visit generally begins with an examination and cleaning, with any findings and recommended treatment explained.
The Medical Plaza Drive location is convenient for the University City area and the surrounding northeast Charlotte neighborhoods. I had a very strange experience trying to apply as a new patient and set up an appointment. I called to set a date and the woman who answered the phone sounded like she hadn’t slept in days most likely because the song old McDonald was blasting so loud in the background that I could hardly hear anything she was saying. Later I get a call about not receiving my pay stubs so I email them and receive this odd and poorly written response. I understand language barriers but this is a very strange and unprofessional method of communication. I canceled the appointment as I do not feel comfortable sharing anymore information with this institution.
I had a wonderful experience today at Charlotte Community Health Clinic - University during an appointment for my son. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. They were organized, attentive, and made us feel completely at ease throughout the visit. A very special thank you to Dr. Tiffany G. Byerly, MD — she was incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and thorough. Her warm approach and clear communication truly made a difference for our family. It’s clear that she and the entire team are dedicated to providing quality healthcare to the community. We’re very grateful for the excellent service and support, and highly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking attentive and respectful medical care.
New patient and already disappointed. I showed up on time for my appointment only to learn it was canceled without any notice. I left work early, lost money, and wasted my time. Calling the clinic for answers was pointless—the phone rang with no response. Completely unprofessional experience. Be warned.
Terrible. Called 5 times to get a prescription updated. The providers don't check messages from staff. Called on Monday, Wednesday, then Thursday! Still prescription not updated. Every time they say that they sent the provider a message. Nothing is happening. I need my medication! Total lack of competence !!
Great First Impression I had a wonderful experience at Charlotte Community Health Clinic and wanted to share my visit in detail. I arrived at 12:45 PM for my 1:20 PM appointment and was promptly checked in by the receptionist. Despite managing several other patients who arrived shortly after me, she was organized and efficient—directing them to sign in and have a seat while continuing to assist others smoothly. Around 1:30 PM, I was called back by Claire, who immediately made me feel welcomed. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and showed genuine care throughout our interaction. Claire demonstrated professionalism and built rapport effortlessly. She also provided me with helpful resources based on my responses, and thoughtfully followed up with me before I left. Dr. Rosa Medina, who conducted my physical, was equally impressive. She introduced herself warmly and was an excellent active listener. Dr. Medina picked up on subtle cues during our conversation and connected me with Rachel, who could speak with me further about additional services. I really appreciated Dr. Medina’s honesty and thoroughness. She also let me know she’d be happy to see me again but was transparent about her limited availability due to high patient retention—an uncommon but highly professional gesture that I truly respected. Rachel took the time to introduce herself and spent about 20 minutes going over services, asking rapport-building questions, and actively listening to my needs. She was kind, helpful, and made me feel heard. Before I left, Yvette (if I caught her name correctly) assisted with scheduling my follow-up appointments and offered me a printed summary of my visit. Overall, every staff member I encountered showed genuine care, professionalism, and a sense of community that made me feel right at home. Whether you're new to Charlotte like I am or a long-time resident, I highly recommend Charlotte Community Health Clinic. They truly go above and beyond for their patients.
