Children's Choice Dental Care Oxnard

Love this dentist office. Taking my 4 year old autistic daughter in for a check up used to sound like a nightmare to me. She still hates having anyone inspect her smile but aside from the exam she had a great time. I can’t say enough nice things about the dentist and staff. My family and I are very grateful. 🙏

Beyond grateful for the staff at Children’s Choice! They managed to turn my neurodivergent son’s phobia of dentist visits around. We had been with several other providers before finding Children’s Choice and I am so glad we did! My son experienced many bad and several traumatic sessions leading us to be waitlisted with UCLA to put him under anesthesia in order to complete the necessary work - then we found Children’s Choice. From scheduling to initial consult I already felt heard and like it could be a positive experience. The receptionists always greet you warmly and manage the chaos of multiple-child-families with grace and compassion. The techs and hygienists are professional, lead with calm demeanors putting patients (and mom!) at ease. The dentist is thorough and works with each child’s individual needs to create a comprehensive treatment plan that is patient-centered. You won’t ever feel like a number here. Children’s Choice is compassionate care for children of all ages and stages.

Office was clean & had ample activities in the waiting room. Staff were nice & efficient, waited longer than I anticipated (in back room) to do so for a child thats 2 yrs old. Once brought back to examination chair, (examination space is an open concept) staff was unsure who patient was & what my daughter needed done. I had to state she was a new patient being seen for the first time at a dental office, then they proceed with check up & applied fluoride. Dr. handled my child with patience & kindness, also did apologize for the long wait time.

I trusted this office with my 5-year-old son, and it turned into a 2-year nightmare. The dentist insisted on doing a baby-tooth root canal and placing a spacer instead of extracting the tooth, even though I asked multiple times if extraction was the safer choice. I was told “no, we must save the tooth,” and they pressured me into a treatment plan I was not comfortable with. The result? My son suffered constant pain for two years. He had repeated infections on his gums, swelling, and was prescribed antibiotics multiple times. The infection spread to the surrounding roots, and now at age 7, another dentist had to extract 5 healthy teeth but indicted roots because the original problem was never handled properly. All this pain, stress, antibiotics, and trauma could have been avoided if the tooth had simply been removed when I originally asked. This was supposed to be pediatric dental care, but instead it caused long-term damage and unnecessary suffering. I will never bring my child back here, and I strongly recommend parents get a second opinion before allowing this office to perform invasive work on their kids.

My daughter came in for her first appointment with children’s choice yesterday and was extremely nervous. She has sensory processing disorder as well as germ focused OCD and they all made her feel so safe and comfortable. They walked her through everything they were doing and made sure she was at ease during the visit. Would definitely recommend other parents to bring their children here as the staff make a sometimes scary situation, easy to get through! ETA - they were able to schedule us VERY quickly and they got her in quickly at appointment time as well. Everything was done within a reasonable time and at no time did we feel ignored or like we were waiting too long.
