About Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics- Washington, DC
Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics- Washington, DC provides dental care on Bunker Hill Road Northeast in the Northeast Washington area of Washington, District of Columbia. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. This was our first time at Children’s Choice (after 3 different people recommended it) and we loved it and are so glad we took our kids, 5 and 8. The hygienist, Ms. Dominique, and the dentist, Dr. BB, took their time to explain everything to me and my kids as they did the cleaning and exam. The space was bright and cheerful and all the staff were friendly. They made sure I received the school forms before I even remembered to ask for them. Over all a great experience.
Nice dentist but super expensive.
We love Dr A and everyone else at Children’s Choice. My 5 year old looks forward to going to the dentist in a way that I never have. So grateful they have led such a comfortable, solid foundation and have invested so much in the community.
Great children’s dentist. Second experience and it was just as terrific as the first. All the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating to children. It is a very positive experience and very good dental care. I highly recommend it. They are also great about bundling sibling appointments together so you can make a single trip.
This place warmed my heart ❤️ with the way Ms. Jo and Dr. Hannah treated my little girl. 💓My daughter has such a fear of all doctors because of how many doctor's she has seen for her disability. They really took their time and built trust with her. And though she still struggled they gave us a long term plan. Awesome ✨️ This so place is so great, I wanted to keep to myself, but I thought of families that need this place like I do. I also want Dr. Hannah and staff to thrive! Outside of the care. The facility is bright, colorful, cheerful and clean!
Our daughter has significant special needs with multiple disabilities and medical issues (autism, intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, nonverbal, a touch of behavior challenges), and Children's Choice has always done a fantastic job caring for her and her teeth over the last four years. We sought out a dental practice that knew how to treat children with disabilities, and also had admitting privileges to a local hospital in case our daughter ever needed dental care under anesthesia. I called every pediatric dentist that our insurance accepted and couldn't find one that fit our needs, so we pay out of pocket to go to Children's Choice. The membership plan and the transparency about the cost of routine care is so helpful. We've had one dental emergency and one routine visit that identified necessary care that went beyond what was included in the membership plan. We were pleasantly surprised to find those expenses were quite reasonable. There does seem to be a lot of turnover with the dentists - we've rarely seen the same dentist more than once, but everyone we've seen has truly been excellent with our daughter. They're always familiar with her file and her extensive medical history, and everything is always set up for our visit when we get there so that dentist visits run smoothly. It's truly a rarity to be taken care of as well as Children's Choice has taken care of us.
We feel so lucky to have this amazing pediatric dentistry so close to home. The staff is so warm and focused on making sure the kids are comfortable and feel safe. They are so fast at assessing the mouth/teeth but catch everything, the speed feels very intentional to support the child's comfort, there is no rushing clients in and out. We feel absolutely confidence in the quality of care here. In addition, the building aesthetics and design is so whimsical, modern, and cheerful, and my kid looks forward to getting a balloon and getting a toy from the nostalgic-esk knob turn toy machines. And as a final note. We have seen Children's Choice supporting numerous children's events around the city and greatly appreciate how committed they are to being a part of the community and helping provide access to toothbrushes and dental care and fun for children.
Great dentistry for children! My daughters have been patients for years and the last two years have included ortho. The staff is always kind, friendly, and helpful. They go to great lengths to create a child friendly and happy dental experience - both locations are bright and beautiful. Our favorite hygienist, Ms. Vickie is so thorough and helpful - every time we see her she offers great tips, tricks, and information to help us care for our teeth better. No shaming, just honest help. Our favorite aid for ortho care, Ms. Jade - can't say enough about how caring and gentle she is. My youngest (8) can be a bit much sometimes but Ms. Jade talks to her, explains the process, and gives her time to process her emotions. Adults often dread going to the dentist but I think my girls won't have that fear given the great experience they have at Children's Choice.
I started taking my kids to Children's Choice Dentistry for over a year now and it has been a fantastic experience. First Impressions/Ambiance - when you walk in, there are two staff at the desk so you will get attend to and/or your questions answered very quickly. There are some toys for the kids which great compared to our old dental office. There are also tea and hot chocolate as well. Hygenist & cleaning- very friendly, approachable, and gentle. They talk to their "patients" and ask them questions about their brushing habits. There are three toothpaste flavors - chocolate, strawberry, and bubble gum. The kids gets excited about these because from what they told me, "it tastes really good". Oh, painless x-ray procedure. Exiting- each kids receives tokens that can be used to get a little token gift then a balloon to take home. Scheduling - you schedule your next appointment on the way out. You receive lot, I mean LOTS of appointment confirmation as your appointment draws near. Also, initial patient is done on their patient portal and you can login anytime to update your information. Added perk, Single Mother Business - of course I HAVE to support that!!!
We always have an amazing experience at DC Children’s Choice Pediatric Dentistry. The entire team is warm, welcoming, and professional, which truly helps children feel comfortable and at ease during their exams. Thank you for providing such wonderful and consistent service!
