About Cochran, Soares, and Associates Pediatric Dentistry

Cochran, Soares, and Associates Pediatric Dentistry is a dental practice on Bayberry Road in the Baymeadows Center area of Jacksonville, Florida. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. What does a paediatric dentist do differently?
They complete additional training focused on children — how teeth develop, how to manage anxiety and behaviour in the chair, and conditions specific to young patients. The practical difference is usually as much about handling the visit as the treatment itself.
When do children start losing baby teeth?
Usually from around age six, continuing until roughly age twelve, though the timing varies widely between children. Adult molars also come through at the back around age six without any baby tooth falling out first.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease or a history of decay a dentist may suggest coming more often. The point of regular visits is mostly to catch problems while they are still small and cheap to treat.

Dr. Jackie Fetner is an outstanding pediatric dentist. Her inherent high-quality care, compassion, kindness, and gentle bedside manner are unmatched. She is extremely knowledgable and works with you to develop a plan and recommended course of action your family feels comfortable with. The entire staff at this office is so professional, warm, and welcoming. I would highly recommend this practice for any pediatric dental needs.

Been here for years. My 5 year old autistic little boy just got fillings and had to be put under and I was a wreck. Every single person that worked with him in that room and followed up with me was absolutely amazing. Janet, Erin, Dr fetner and there was one more Dr but I cannot remember her name. I apologize. But they were so attentive to me and kept me updated through the entire process. I have loved this office since we started coming here in 2017 with my oldest. Thank you for all you did for me on Monday. I am very appreciative of all of you ladies!

Really great experience here! Our local dentist didn’t take our insurance so we traveled an hour and 45 minutes here for my 6 year old to have an extraction and fillings done with iv sedation. Janet was wonderful with scheduling and explaining costs, I can’t thank her enough. The anesthesia team was wonderful too. Dr. Soares was great, very good with communication about what he was going to do. Hopefully we won’t have to return but overall it was a good experience and my child did very well.
