About Columbia Dental Health Center

Outlet Pointe Boulevard is a short commercial loop off Bush River Road on Columbia's western side, close to the I-20 and I-26 interchange and convenient for anyone driving in from Irmo, Cayce or West Columbia. Columbia Dental Health Center works there as an access-focused practice. Dr. Brandon Cain and his team accept Medicaid alongside major insurance plans, offer third-party financing through Cherry, and take patients directly without requiring a referral from another dentist. Staff communicate with patients in English and Spanish.

Sedation is central to how the office handles the work it does most: extractions, surgical removals and implant placement. Oral sedation means a tablet taken beforehand that leaves you awake but detached, with little memory of the appointment afterwards. IV sedation is titrated through a vein, so the depth can be adjusted minute by minute while breathing and heart rate are monitored. Neither is general anesthesia, and neither removes the need for local numbing. What they change is the anxiety, the sense of time passing, and the ability to get several quadrants finished in one sitting rather than spread across months of dreaded visits. Either route ends the same way, though: somebody else has to be behind the wheel when you leave, so the visit has to land on a day when a relative or a friend can come along with you.

The restorative side runs from single implants through implant-retained dentures, which use two or more posts to lock a lower denture down instead of relying on suction that the lower jaw never provides well. The nylon inserts inside those attachments are wear parts, incidentally, and get swapped out every year or so to keep the snap firm; budget for that rather than being surprised by it. Conventional full dentures and partials, simple and surgical extractions, wisdom tooth removal, general restorative work and emergency appointments fill out the list, and emergencies are usually the reason a first visit happens at all.

Cost transparency is the point of a practice like this, but it has limits worth naming out loud. Adult Medicaid dental coverage in South Carolina is narrower than children's coverage, so ask specifically what your plan pays toward extractions, dentures or implants before you commit to a treatment sequence, and get the remaining balance in writing. Hours are weekdays only, opening at eight and closing between three and four depending on the day, with no weekend clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the practice accept Medicaid?
Yes, alongside major insurance plans, and financing through Cherry is available for any balance. Adult coverage in South Carolina is narrower than coverage for children, so before planning a sequence of extractions, dentures or implants, ask the office to check what your specific plan pays and what it does not. No referral from another dentist is required in order to book an appointment here.
What is the difference between oral and IV sedation?
Oral sedation is a tablet taken before the appointment; it leaves you conscious but detached and usually blurs your memory of the visit. IV sedation is delivered through a vein and can be adjusted during treatment, with breathing and heart rate monitored throughout. Neither replaces local anesthetic, and both require someone to drive you home afterwards and stay with you for the remainder of the day.
Is anyone available who speaks Spanish?
The practice communicates with patients in English and Spanish, which matters when consent forms, sedation instructions and post-operative care are being explained. Mention your preference when booking so it can be arranged for the clinical appointment itself and not only for the front desk. It is also worth asking for written aftercare instructions in the language you read most comfortably.

I literally just had a tooth extraction less than 30 minutes ago! That’s how you know they are the bomb. Saysha (excuse me if I spelled your name wrong) went over and beyond the call of duty to secure me an appointment. Dr Cain, was super amazing, patient, kind, meticulous, knowledgeable, and overall amazing! Do not second guess booking them. You will not regret it!

I brought my son in from a referral. Once my son was brought back to be seen, the dental hygienist did not bother to look at my son's teeth and the Dr who came in afterward barely looked at my son's teeth before he decided that they could not do any work on my son's teeth because it was beyond their ability to provider the service to him. My son is Autistic and needed sedation for the procedure but they couldn't do it. So he was referred to Prisma Health Dentistry for the procedure. I had to ask for a copy of the referral and when I called Prisma Health Dentistry, they never got a referral. I called the Columbia Dental Health Center and they would not answer my calls, I kept getting hung up on. So not only were they relunctant to help my son, but they wouldn't send the referral for him. It's a shame because I thought the staff was kind, but wasn't any help when it comes to my son's care.

I highly recommend Columbia Dental Health Center for your dental health care. Dr Cain is a great dentist that really cares about patients. Dr Cain and his team did my dental care and I had no issues. His team even followed up the next day to make sure I had no issues. Also Dr Cain spent time talking to me on my first visit and recommended that I go to a E.R due to my blood pressure and thanks to Dr Cain I discovered I had other medical issues that I didn’t know about. Dr Cain is not just a good dentist he is a great American citizen that cares about his patients. Great staff and a great dental office for all your dental health needs.
