About Comfort Dental

Comfort Dental operates on Larimer Street in the Central area of Denver, Colorado. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. Called at 10 am with dental emergency, got me in at 10:45 am, I was super nervous I have extreme dental anxiety but they were amazing! Especially Joe! He was the dental assistant and answered all my questions and spoke in a way I could easily understand! Will be coming back and making this my normal dentist now!

16/33 most recent reviews are 1 stars, a troubling trend indeed. Had an appt with James Liu 7/6/26. His intake worker Joe comes out to get me, dont remember his name, short spiky hair male. Tells me to close the door to the patient waiting room as I follow him, which is immediately slightly weird to ask a patient to close a random door. He immediately tells me to sit down in the chair and tells me I will be going to get XRs. Until then, I have not spoken to anyone about what I am here for, so I naturally ask him will I be seeing Dr. Liu to have a discussion before pulling the trigger on any diagnostic exams. He answers that I will be, but I need XRs before anything can be done. At this point, I question whether a discussion can be held before getting an XR. He then proceeds to condescendingly play out what happens at a dentist's office and mockingly puts a dental drape over my chest and making unwanted contact with myself. I do catch a glimpse of Dr Liu before leaving and tell him how his assistant is being rude, to which he simply smiles and says nothing. Before leaving Joe, claims hes been doing this for 18 years; a point which is worth some introspection on his part on why, before being condescending, lacking clear communication, and rude to patients.

I had been a patient at this office for several years and previously had a wonderful experience with a female dentist who treated me with kindness and respect. After she left the practice, I was assigned a new dentist when a filling that had been placed about three years ago broke. I scheduled an appointment because the broken filling was causing significant pain and extreme sensitivity (it still is). Instead of repairing the filling, I was told I needed 10 crowns and that the office wanted to begin the approval process immediately. This recommendation surprised me, so I sought additional opinions from other dentists (one of which is in our family) who reviewed my X-rays. They advised that I may need one or two crowns, but did not agree with the recommendation for 10 crowns. I called the office two times to explain that I was concerned about undergoing extensive dental work that may not be necessary and to see what was or was not approved by medicaid. I asked if they could simply address the painful broken filling and the one other tooth that was bothering me. I was never hostile or disrespectful during these conversations. I was simply asking questions and trying to understand why such extensive treatment was being recommended. The office still declined to repair the filling and instead submitted it for a crown. Shortly afterward, I received a letter terminating me as a patient due to an alleged lack of trust in the dentist-patient relationship. As a patient, I believe I should be able to ask questions, seek clarification, and even obtain second opinions before agreeing to major and irreversible dental work. I was especially disappointed because I had recently had a baby, was dealing with tooth pain, and made it clear that I did not want to sever ties with the practice. I wanted either a second provider within the office or a clear explanation of why so many crowns were necessary. I even called them back after getting the letter from their office to explain I did not want to cut ties and disagreed with this decision - I have been coming here for a long time and am comfortable here, that my family members also use this office. I just again, only wanted the filling to be repaired and possibly to look into the other tooth that is being problematic. Unfortunately, I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and penalized for asking reasonable questions about a major treatment plan that could never be reversed. I'm highly disappointed and offended by the way this has all played out and I am still left with a broken filling that is still causing me pain; which is the orignal and only real reason I went in to begin with. So I have been waiting for a treatment plan, trying to understand and negotiate that plan, and at the end I am right where I started two weeks ago when I tried to come in to get the filling fixed. In pain. *This is an added edit as a reply to the owener* I was never unwilling to communciate or discuss my treatment plan with the team, no one ever tried that either. I am not able to speak to the dentist directly so I was doing my best to communciate my concerns and understand with the front desk. I was confused but instead of getting answers I was "fired" and even when I called back to ask that we come to a different conclusion I was told no. When I asked if we could still get my emergency filling request repaired (because it says you guys will do emergencies for up to 30 days in our severence letter) I was also told no, go somewhere else. I came in asking to get something that is causing pain fixed and it was put in as a crown (one of ten) when I just wanted the pain to be fixed. I called today regarding this I asked if there was decay underneath my fillings and simply said if there was not decay I did not want to go through with that many. I was willing to do crowns with any teeth that had decay but I wanted to understand more of my treatment plan. I was told harshly to wait til Monday but that appointment was canceled and I was told several times I was not welcome anymore. This was a very disheartening experience.

Definitely don’t come here if you want any care or empathy. My mom visited for a fractured tooth and was told she would need 3 emergency root canals the next day. She was in so much pain she could barely talk and couldn’t eat- they refused to give her any pain medicine and she was told to just take Motrin. When we called back to complain of how severe her pain was, she was told they couldn’t prescribe her any medicine because she hadn’t been seen in over a year (despite being seen that dat(. I never leave reviews but to me this was borderline malpractice. Will definitely be reporting these doctors to the Colorado dentistry board.

Every visit I've had here has been excellent. The staff is AMAZING! I've gotten checked in quickly and haven't had to wait more than a minute or two to be taken back to see the dentist. I've had a few different dental assistants and every one of them have been super nice, made me comfortable and have done excellent work. The dentist has been amazing as well...friendly, funny, takes the time to listen to concerns and does a great job! Checking out always goes smoothly. Staff is knowledgeable, helps with any insurance or billing issues and makes scheduling easy. Great place and I highly recommend them!

This was my first time here and I couldn’t be more impressed. I was in the waiting room for not too long. I was immediately seen. Dr. Liu is the dentist whose care I’m now under, and his bedside manners are impeccable. He’s got great jokes, and we had a nice laugh, easing the anxiety anybody might have had at the dentist. He explained everything thoroughly, created an action plan, and we went from there. Honestly, it was the easiest appointment I’ve ever had at the dentist. It is not very often that you are eager to go back to the dentist to get things worked on and feel that ease that you’re in the hands of a capable dentist. I highly recommend making an appointment at this Comfort Dental for any of your dental needs. I couldn’t be happier, and I will be recommending this location to people, and in fact, I already have.
