I started going to Dr. Gist several years ago for cleanings and they were okay. In early 2025 he told me I needed to have several fillings. I trusted him, BIG mistake. They filled a tooth that needed a root canal and crown. When he filled the tooth, he cracked the healthy tooth next to it. Not the mention the terrible pain I was in during the procedure and after. The fillings were the "out of date" silver fillings, that no respectable Dentist still uses. I had to see an oral surgeon for a root canal, then a new Dentist to compete the terrible job left by Dr. Gist. I'm now into my 3 procedure to correct the mess left by Dr. Gist. He also maxed out my insurance to get his payment. Do not waste your time, money and good oral health on Dr. Gist and his staff. Shop around, read reviews.
After having an appointment scheduled for almost three weeks they called me under three hours prior to appointment to tell me they could not do what was needed! I emailed them to find out why I did not find out prior and no response! I would not expect that from a 16 year old kid with a part time job never mind a dentist!
Awful experience with their front office staff and their dental hygienist each time I’ve been there. Not friendly or helpful at all. The new recepitionist seems to be more friendly but, did not call me the day of my appointment to tell me they couldn’t see me (after I’ve had the appointment scheduled for 6 months+). The male hygienist comes off cold, rude and is not gentle when cleaning. I’ve barely seen the actual Dentist. I rarely make reviews but, felt this one had to be shared. I definitely will not be returning to this dental office.
I am not one to routinely post negative reviews about anything- this is actually my first. However I feel an obligation to share my negative experiences with this dental practice. The dentist is cold and rude- he berates his hygienists in front of patients and takes no time to explain what he is doing and what to expect. One my fillings on a bottom tooth was broken during a TEN minute cleaning. I called the office to let them know about the problem and asked that it be taken care of at an upcoming appointment that I had. When I arrived for that appointment Dr. Gist was not aware of this second issue and yelled at his hygienist / office staff for not letting him know. He informed that the filling the broken cavity was “not a ten minute job” and could not be done that day. I did get a “temporary” crown that day on my first tooth (which consisted of a plastic coating on a small nub of a tooth since it was ground to nothing). I was not informed that I was leaving the office basically toothless. I was then asked to drive to a location five miles away to have my color matched for my permanent crown (and had to return to this location a week later to make sure the color was correct). I had to go two weeks without a tooth as I waited for the crown to come in (I was supposed to get it a week earlier but three hours before my appointment they cancelled because the crown was damaged and they were sending it back to the lab- they noticed this after having the crown in their possession already for at least three business days). When I finally got the permanent crown I asked it they were going to take care of the problem on the bottom tooth-which seemed to again be a surprise. They asked me to set up another appointment. At that point I switched dentists- and was reminded about the little things that should be done- like providing goggles when my tooth was being drilled and taking x-rays to identify problems. If you have an HDMO dental plan from CMS please note that you have only five dentists in the entire Charlotte area to choose from. Do NOT choose this one. I also suggest that at open enrollment you look into a better dental plan that will allow you chose from an array of dentists (who care and will treat you like a human being).
I have been a patient here before but hadn't been in a while due to pregnancy etc. I had multiple cavities that were causing me pain to the point where I couldn't eat on one side of my mouth. I made an appt a month in advance to get fillings and a cleaning- I showed up, early, to be greeted by them saying there system had crashed and asked me what I had scheduled for and that they could only do a cleaning or one filling. Ok fine, they take me back, x Ray just one tooth, and then tell me oh it's not a cavity you need a root canal go to the front for a referral. From the time I walked in to check in and then to check out was 5 MINUTES. No cleaning, no exam, nothing! Complete waste of time! I had to re arrange other people's schedule to accommodate so my baby could be taken care of! And dr gist asked the woman up front BEFORE saying if I should come back for my regular visit what insurance I had, once she told him, he said "ok good, come back once they do the root canal." I went to another, professional dentist that actually cared and took the time to examine my teeth and did full x-Rays and YES I did have cavities where I thought I did and do not need a root canal and finally have relief! Worst experience ever no regard for the patients.
