About deme

deme provides dental care on Arch Street in the Center City area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. My wife was there for dental cleaning and they said she needed two crowns for teeth that we later realized were completely fine. They grinded the two teeth which had earlier filling and then put crowns on. It was super costly even after using insurance. At the end of it, one of the crowns got a hole and also came off. When we checked with another dentist, they called out to what was done at deme as unjust and completely unnecessary. Avoid at all costs!

I had a great experience getting my annual cleaning and exam. Melinda was my hygienist and she was very professional, through, and knowledgeable. When she used the mini pressure washer device that hurts my ears, she specifically avoided using the device on the areas that would hurt. There was also minimal splashing. The dentist Dr. Soheili was also very professional and informative. Definitely will go here again!

This is a belated review. During the first year of the pandemic my crown unexpectedly came off. I visited this office for a repair on the crown. The reason I had a negative experience was because subsequent to my visit and my repair, I ended up having a root canal on the same tooth (from a different office) due to the poorly performed service by this office. After the initial repair, I went back again because of the lasting discomfort from the crown. I may have went back for a third time. The discomfort and frequent pain lasted through summer of the following year. I eventually visited other offices to get a second / third opinion. Their evaluations and my x-ray confirmed that the crown repair was improper and that I needed a root canal right away. I know (it's true for me) that it can be difficult to judge the quality of medical services received and that procedures do go awry. The thing I remember the most beside the improper repair was that during my subsequent visits, my dentist displayed a lack of care for my concerns and lack of accountability and willingness to help. That ultimately is why I would not recommend this office. I have since visited several other offices near Rittenhouse Square and they were great. If you are on the fence, consider another office.

The best dentist and staff anywhere! I was in a lot of pain with a tooth that had exposed root tips. I spoke to Sandra on the phone who was very helpful and professional. I also spoke to Cheryl George and I was able to come in right away to see Dr. George. When I arrived at the office it was clean, immaculate, and quiet. I only waited about a few seconds and was taken into the back by one of the dental assistants Krissy. Krissy and another dental assistant, Jenna, were both very professional and made me feel at ease. We had a good time talking and laughing that I forgot where I was. They explained what was going to happen and took a full history to give to Dr. Thomas George. Dr. George and Jenna worked on my tooth and were able to take care of it right away. I was given all of the information that I needed when I left and Cheryl George explained everything and gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. My experience was one of the best that I have encountered at any dental practice. A truly GREAT staff and GREAT experience! Thank you so much.

I have been going to Deme for about a year now. I have had a lot of dentists over the years, and Deme is by far my favorite. The office is modern and extremely clean and they are staffed with some of the best dentists in Philadelphia. Everyone that works at Deme is warm and professional - a great vibe for a dentist's office. I was referred there due to a dental emergency - they got me in as soon as possible and took excellent care of my teeth. My dentist (Dr. Ford - she's awesome) was genuinely concerned with my case. They take amazing care of my teeth, I will be a loyal patient to Deme for as long as I live in Philly.
