About Dental Arts of Ellet

Ellet is an Akron neighbourhood of long-tenured households, and the practice on South Canton Road reflects that — children coming in for sealants, their parents for crowns, and grandparents for full-mouth rehabilitation, often within the same family file. Dr. Cristian Chirla, DMD has been practising for more than twenty-five years and has built the office around handling nearly everything himself. Checkups and preventive work, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions, crowns, bridgework, implants, dentures, gum treatment and children's appointments are all handled on site, so a household file rarely has to be split across town between a second office and a second waiting list.

"If we wouldn't do it for our families, we won't do it for yours."

One capability worth understanding is laser gum therapy, offered here as LANAP for natural teeth and LAPIP for tissue failing around an implant. Traditional gum surgery involves cutting the gum away from the tooth, folding it back, cleaning the root surface, then stitching the tissue down lower than it started — effective, but it leaves longer-looking teeth and a genuinely sore recovery. The laser approach threads a fibre roughly the width of a hair between gum and root instead. It targets diseased tissue and bacteria while sparing healthy tissue, the root is then cleaned mechanically, and a second laser pass forms a stable clot that seals the pocket. No scalpel, no sutures, and most people return to work the next day. It does not replace daily flossing or regular maintenance visits, and advanced bone loss may still need conventional surgery.

Also on hand: E4D chairside technology for restorations designed and milled during the appointment, Velscope screening that uses fluorescent light to reveal soft-tissue changes an eye alone would miss, and an explicit welcome for people who have been avoiding dentists out of anxiety. A patient discount agreement is available for those without insurance.

The office is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday only, from eight until five. That three-day week is the honest limitation to weigh — it suits people who can plan ahead, and it is less forgiving if you need a same-week emergency slot. The Canton Road location is easy from Ellet, Goodyear Heights, Lakemore, Mogadore and Springfield Township.

A South Canton Road practice in Akron's Ellet neighbourhood led by Dr. Cristian Chirla, DMD, who has practised for more than twenty-five years and keeps almost all treatment in-house — preventive, restorative, endodontic, surgical, implant, periodontal and children's care. Distinctive tools include LANAP and LAPIP laser gum therapy, E4D chairside restorations and Velscope soft-tissue screening. Anxious patients are explicitly welcomed and a discount agreement exists for the uninsured. Open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be sent elsewhere for root canals, extractions or gum treatment?
Usually not. Dr. Chirla's practice is deliberately broad — endodontics, oral surgery, periodontal care, implants, dentures and children's dentistry are all handled at the Canton Road office rather than parcelled out. Referrals still happen for genuinely complex cases, such as jaw surgery or unusual pathology, but the everyday work that many practices send away stays in the building, which spares you a second set of appointments and records.
How does laser gum treatment differ from traditional gum surgery?
Conventional surgery cuts and lifts the gum, cleans the root, and stitches the tissue back at a lower level, which leaves teeth looking longer and a sore recovery. The laser method slides a hair-thin fibre into the pocket instead, clearing diseased tissue and bacteria without a scalpel or stitches. A second pass seals the pocket with a clot. Most people work the next day, though severe bone loss may still require conventional surgery.
I have avoided the dentist for years. Is this a reasonable place to restart?
The practice states outright that it treats anxious patients, and its stated philosophy is that nothing is recommended that the team would not choose for their own families. Practically, that means starting with an examination and a conversation rather than a long treatment list on day one. Bring up your anxiety when booking, and ask for the first visit to be diagnostic only so you know what you are facing.

The care providers there are great! But this was my first appointment there, and they never checked to see that xrays wouldn't be covered by my insurance. They just went ahead and did them anyway and I had to pay almost $200 out of pocket. They would've gotten 5 stars, but after getting screwed like that, they get 3

I have been a patient of Dr Chirla for almost 30 years. Even though my teeth tend to need a fair amount of attention (cavities, crowns, root canal) I have never had a bad experience at his practice. The hygienist (usually Aubrey) and Dr Chirla are very professional/knowledgeable and take the time to explain anything/everything in a friendly and caring way. Actually everyone at the office is friendly and helpful. I won’t go anywhere else.

Cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. After some previous horrific experiences at an unassociated practice I was terrified of the dentist and put off going in for many years. Dr. Chirla and his fabulous staff including Sarah and Sammie made me feel comfortable and safe throughout the entire process of being seen again. I was able to get a consultation, bite adjustment, cleaning and two cavities filled in a timely manner. Every step of the process was explained in detail and handled with the utmost care and concern. What an amazing staff! Couldn’t be happier I fell upon this fantastic dental practice!
