About Dental Designs of Maryland - Columbia, MD

A molar splits on a Tuesday lunch. No pain yet, just a sharp edge and a fragment of tooth in your hand. What you want next is a diagnosis and a plan the same week, not a temporary crown that stretches over a month and a second round of numbing. That gap between the emergency and the finished restoration is where most people lose patience with dentistry.

The Columbia office of Dental Designs of Maryland is organized around closing it. The practice runs a CEREC system, scanning the prepared tooth and milling a ceramic crown in the building, so a single-visit crown is possible in the right circumstances. It is a general practice with a wide bench, including Dr. Lynda Alexi Torres, Dr. Nina-Cecilia Santos, Dr. Joshua Metzger and Dr. Kai Weng, covering exams and cleanings, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions and gum work, implants and full-arch rehabilitation, veneers and whitening, plus facial aesthetics with Botox, Xeomin and dermal fillers. Emergencies are seen, and the office publishes a $49 limited emergency exam with X-ray, which is a concrete number to work with when you cannot tell whether the problem can wait.

Suite H at 10000 Old Columbia Road puts the practice in the Kings Contrivance corner of south Columbia, close to the Route 32 interchange. That is an easy run from Savage, Scaggsville, North Laurel and Laurel, and a longer one from Ellicott City or the western villages. Hours are staggered rather than uniform: an 8am start Monday and Thursday, a 9am Wednesday, and a 10am to 6pm Tuesday that is the one to request if you cannot leave work early. The practice works with major dental insurance and offers a monthly wellness plan for patients without coverage, alongside cash-pay discounts.

One caution about same-day dentistry. Not every tooth qualifies. A crown milled in a single visit needs enough sound structure left and no active infection at the root. If the nerve is involved, root canal treatment comes first and the timeline lengthens, and cases where shade matching across several front teeth is critical may still go out to a laboratory. Ask at the exam which path your tooth is on before you plan the afternoon around it.

Dental Designs of Maryland's Columbia office on Old Columbia Road is a general practice built for speed on restorative work: a CEREC scanner and mill let many crowns be finished in one visit. Dr. Lynda Alexi Torres, Dr. Nina-Cecilia Santos, Dr. Joshua Metzger and Dr. Kai Weng cover preventive care, fillings, root canals, extractions and gum work, implants and full-arch rehabilitation, veneers, whitening and facial aesthetics. A $49 limited emergency exam with X-ray is offered, plus a wellness plan for uninsured patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really get a crown in one visit?
Often, but not always. The office uses a CEREC scanner and mill, so a ceramic crown can be designed and made on site while you wait. That works when enough sound tooth structure remains and there is no infection at the root. If the nerve is involved, root canal treatment has to come first, and restorations needing custom lab work for shade or bite reasons will still take two appointments.
What does the $49 emergency exam cover?
It covers a limited examination of the specific problem that brought you in, whether that is a broken tooth, swelling, a lost crown or sudden pain, plus the X-ray needed to diagnose it. Treatment itself is quoted separately once the cause is clear. It is a quick way to find out whether something can safely wait for a scheduled appointment or needs handling the same day.
Which appointment times suit someone who works full time?
Hours are deliberately staggered rather than identical each day. Monday and Thursday open at 8am, Wednesday at 9am, and Tuesday runs 10am to 6pm. That Tuesday block is the one to ask for if leaving work early is not realistic. The office is closed Friday through the weekend, so a late Tuesday paired with an early Monday tends to be the least disruptive combination for multi-visit treatment.

A lot of people hate the dentist but I swear I want to just take a nap every time I’m there. Dr. Torres is an amazing dentist - we’ve tackled cleanings, fillings and even an implant together and she’s super kind! Her staff is wonderful from reception to dental hygienist - they absolutely rock. I’ve sent my kid and spouse to them as well!

This place that is awesome. They were able to book an emergency dental appointment for me, even though they were fully booked the whole day. Everyone was phenomenally professional. From the front desk to the assistant to the dentist herself. I unfortunately do not have dental insurance and had to pay out-of-pocket and everything was affordable. Everything was explained And all my options were given to me very thoroughly and highly recommend to anyone

I recently switched to Dental Designs of MD - Columbia and have been extremely impressed with my experience so far. From the very first interaction, the front desk staff was warm, friendly, and made scheduling and check-out seamless. At my initial appointment, Dr. Torres took the time to ask thoughtful, thorough questions, listened to my fears and concerns, and clearly explained my recommended treatment plan. She is knowledgeable, kind, and very attentive. I’ve since had a crown replaced, and the process was efficient and done exceptionally well. I’m so glad I made the switch and would highly recommend this practice to others. Lovely, professional people; and a beautiful, clean office.

I will recommend Dental Designs of Maryland, EVERYTIME, to anyone and everyone looking for a new Dental Practice!!! Dr. Santos literally makes my visit to the dentist enjoyable! I actually look forward to seeing her when I'm there. 🙂 She will listen to your concerns and helps you understand exactly what needs to happen to get you the best results. She truly cares about her patients and that is something you don't find often, compassion. 🙂 The office environment is always warm and welcoming- from the second you walk through the doors. The entire staff is positve, friendly, inviting, and they greet you by name before you reach the counter! It's obvious they are happy to be part of such an amazing team! And did I mention- the offices are beautiful! I highly recommend Dr. Santos and her entire staff! Thank you for all that you do!! ❤️
