Fridays finish at 12:30 here, Tuesdays and Thursdays run through to 5:30, and Monday and Wednesday close at 4:30 — worth checking before you plan around a lunch-hour appointment. The office is at 83 Brunswick Street, a block off Ontario Street and walkable from Market Square or City Hall. Rebranded from Barlow-Smisek Dentistry, it is the same building, the same phone line and the same general family practice it has been for years.
The piece of equipment that changes an appointment here is the milling unit. A crown made the ordinary way is two appointments with a laboratory in between; the alternative on offer is one appointment that is simply longer. The tooth is prepared and scanned, the restoration is designed on screen while you sit there, and the machine cuts it from a pre-shaded ceramic block before it is glazed and bonded. What you trade is an hour or so of your morning against three weeks of a temporary crown that can loosen, catch food at the margin and leave the tooth sharp to cold. You are frozen once, and the tooth is finished before you walk out.
Ask which category your tooth falls into, because the answer is not always the machine. A molar or premolar with sound remaining walls is the natural candidate. A front tooth that has to blend against the one beside it is often better built by a technician layering porcelain by hand, and a tooth broken down to the gumline may need a core build-up, or gum surgery to expose a clean margin, before any crown has something to grip.
The rest is ordinary household coverage: exams and hygiene, sealants, fillings, root canals that can frequently be completed in a single sitting, bridges, implants, dentures, gum therapy, night and sport guards, and emergency appointments when something breaks. Sedation is available for people who find dentistry difficult, intake forms can be completed before you arrive, and new patients are being accepted. Driving in from the east-end subdivisions rather than walking from the core, factor downtown parking into the plan: street spots and municipal lots, no private lot at the door.

After recently starting with Brunswick Street Dental, I have to say I've been so impressed with Dr. Barlow and every staff member I've dealt with. Their level of efficiency and professionalism is unsurpassed in my experience, in addition all have been very personable and take every measure to ensure your comfort through every stage of your visit. I could not be happier with my experiences there.
I’ve been to many dentists in my life … without a doubt Dr.Barlow is one of the absolute best! Not only is he extremely skilled with regard to freezing, fillings, etc., but it’s the interactions with his assistants that I’d like to highlight in this review. When he speaks to his staff he’s polite, he’s kind & he’s patient … seems like a no-brainer but in my experience when it comes to working with the assistants, dentists can sometimes come across as short, frustrated and a bit ‘barky’. When I’m in the chair listening I find this type of exchange awkward and uncomfortable. I like to hear ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. I want to feel a mutual respect. I like to feel that the dentist has patience when the assistant is working through a request and I am put at ease when the dentist treats the assistant like an equal and not a subordinate. From my experience Dr Barlow exemplifies all of these positive attributes. I’m grateful you are my dentist…. Hopefully my last. :)

Such incredible staff! Whenever we go to this office, staff look like they enjoy their jobs. They are incredibly nice and helpful. Dr. Barlow is so great at what he does. Our last visit there with Dr. Smisek, she was incredibly patient and enthusiastic with my pretty anxious 8 year old son. His procedure went great and it’s because her and her team made him feel safe and comfortable. I can’t say enough good things about this office ❤️
All of the staff was great when I brought my 2.5 year old son in for a check up and cleaning! Dr. Barlow was very friendly with him to make him feel comfortable and Dr. Smisek even popped in to say hi! Kassidy, his hygienist, was very patient while treating him. We look forward to our next check up and cleaning! Keep up the great, professional work everyone!
My favourite and most comfortable debatable office I have ever been too. All the staff is passionate about their job and it shows with their knowledge and great energy. They are caring and tolerant with children as well. My immediate & whole family has been going to this office for 20+ years. Amazing services every time. Honest pricing, and they work with you.
