About Department of Dentistry | Boston Children's Hospital
The Department of Dentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital is a dental specialty and general dentistry department for pediatric patients, located at 300 Longwood Avenue on the Boston Children’s Hospital campus in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston, Massachusetts. The department provides dental care to children within the hospital’s broader clinical environment, including patients with complex medical needs requiring dental care coordinated with other medical treatment.
Dental care for pediatric patients in a hospital-based setting encompasses general dentistry services such as examinations, cleanings, and preventive care, as well as the management of dental conditions in children who may have systemic medical conditions, developmental differences, or prior treatment histories requiring specialized consideration. The hospital dental department is equipped to coordinate with other specialties when dental care intersects with a child’s broader medical plan.
Hospital-affiliated pediatric dental departments serve a different population than community pediatric dental offices. Children with complex medical backgrounds, developmental conditions, or special behavioral needs who cannot safely receive dental care in a standard outpatient setting may be best served by a hospital-based team that can draw on the hospital’s broader clinical resources, including anesthesia support when needed.
Parents and caregivers should be prepared for the intake and scheduling processes typical of a major academic medical center, which may differ from those of a community dental office. Questions about whether a child is an appropriate candidate for care at this department versus a community pediatric practice can be directed to the department’s scheduling staff when making initial contact.
The Longwood Medical Area is served by the MBTA Green Line D branch at Longwood Medical Area station and by bus routes connecting the Fenway, Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods. Boston Children’s Hospital is located near Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and other major Longwood Medical Area institutions.

Every single person we encountered here was beyond helpful, kind, and reassuring. The security guards who helped direct us to the correct unit, the front desk employee who was SO helpful, patient and on top of things, and the dentist and dental assistants who were decisive, informative and did a great job. I'm so pleased with our experience during our visit.
Been going to Boston children's dentisty and they are amazing. My son has special needs and they have always been kind and understanding but most of all experienced.
Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Dental Department is absolutely exceptional. The doctors and staff are highly skilled, but incredibly compassionate as well , especially in emergency situations when your child is scared and you’re feeling overwhelmed as a parent. From the moment you walk in, you can feel that you’re in the hands of true professionals who specialize in caring for children with patience, kindness, and expertise.
Started coming here last year because my son (newly 3 at the time) was seeing a local dentist that said he had 9+ cavities and would need sedation to have them filled. Well thank god I took him here because all the staff were amazing and knowledgeable. And it turns out he only had 1 cavity and the rest was staining from oral iron supplements he was taking.. they also were not worried about filling the cavity until he was older and gave other options! My son is getting that cavity filled tomorrow and I feel so much better about it now that he is 4. I have to travel 1 hour to get into the city but for my son it is totally worth it because I trust the care he is getting!
My son fell very badly and hurt his lip and his tooth and they were able to take us in for a same day appointment. While it did take a little while to be seen, once we were seen they were very on top of it. Although my son did give a hard time they were able to get to X-rays and find solutions for him. They also made sure that a follow up appointment would be scheduled. Good experience
I would not recommend going there my son was seen, 2mths ago, he was supposed to have an emergency route canal surgery, after being seen they said that he had to be seen by a dentist virtually, which that dentist said he was not sure why he had that appointment it was a waist of time. I was told he would be put asleep for the surgery, 2mths later my son is still in pain, and having migraine, still waiting on what was supposed to be emergency surgery, now they are telling they are waiting for a provider which if I had not called they would have never sent am email, someone is clearly not doing there job, now there telling me to alternate between tynole, and motren omg for two months are you serious please they are not a great place I'm am looking else where!!!!
