My name is Mike Chavez, and I recently terminated my patient/provider relationship with Dr. Nathan Tenney. Having over $40,000 of dental work in my mouth over 41 years of life, I know what acceptable dental care looks like. This practice fell completely short of basic standards, and consumers need to be aware of how this office operates. Illegal/Unsupervised Care: A dental assistant was permitted to place my temporary crown completely unsupervised, with zero final inspection by the licensed dentist. This is illegal under Arizona law and resulted in an inaccurate bite, an incredibly rough texture, and physical damage to my gums. Falsified Records & Deflection: Upon reviewing my charts, I discovered that the clinical notations were altered and did not reflect the true reality of my treatment or concerns. Dr. Tenney completely omitted the conversation from my permanent crown appointment—which I declined to accept because the color match was way off. When I explicitly called out the dentist for allowing his assistant to seat the temporary crown without him ever checking her work, both he and his assistant went completely silent to avoid incriminating themselves. Withholding Medical Records: After firing this office, I legally requested my complete records. The office sent an incomplete file, intentionally omitting my patient termination letter, a cease-and-desist notice, and my written refund request. To make matters worse, I traveled over 536 miles round trip for two separate appointments, and over two months later, I am still stuck with a temporary crown in my mouth. I have filed a formal complaint with the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners. This office's behavior is shameful. Avoid this practice at all costs.

It’s been over 14 years since I’ve been to the dentist and this was a really nice location for a reintroduction. I felt like Rip Van Winkle after seeing how the process has evolved. Nonetheless, the staff at Desert Smiles was very professional from start to finish. I think I will make this practice my consistent go-to for dental work. No more sleeping for me!
