About Desert Valley Pediatric Dentistry - West Olive
Desert Valley Pediatric Dentistry - West Olive provides dental care on West Olive Avenue in the Suncrest Homes Association area of Glendale, Arizona. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. The new lady that I think her name is Grace she was really good with my son today and I've been at this place since he was one everybody treats his real well the time we come into the time we leave I love this place so much and I will keep bringing him until he's old enough
Would NOT recommend . Horrible experience time after time. From the untrained lady getting sealant in my daughter’s hair to the front office ladies not understanding how scheduled appointments should be treated . Stay far away .
Terrible. We went for treatment and they put no topical (numbing jelly) on and just used the needle. Had a deep cleaning and left with a bloody mouth and in pain would never come back here again.
Friendly staff and a great experience overall. Dr. Ernest was amazing with my son — patient, gentle, and made him feel completely comfortable. Highly recommend this clinic.
Nice and friendly staff. The dentist wasn’t terrible. Just had a hard time with having made my appointment at least a week in advanced, called to see if there was any issue with insurance (had some difficult before elsewhere) and got to the appointment and still had to wait for them to verify. My biggest difficulty was the actual exam. Everyone is in the same space, so it’s fairly loud and no privacy. The dentist also barely brushed my son’s teeth- if just a quick swipe over his teeth is sufficient, I’m over brushing. Not sure I’ll return as the practice didn’t work for us. But the office is very clean, everyone was very pleasant and seemed happy to be there.
If I could give no stars to this location for the orthodontic side I would give it zero. Got my daughter braces over 2 years ago I was told treatment would be 23 months they never have any flexibility on appointments they do not follow your treatment plan for how many weeks you're supposed to get a routine check-up for braces they push it out 9, 10, 11 weeks out. I paid for her braces in cash once they get their money they don't care about the treatment plan and staying on top of the treatment. Then when I'm trying to accommodate a time that works for us I always get rude attitude from the staff. Thank God I did not get my son's braces at Desert Valley pediatric dentistry & Orthodontics I highly recommend anyone to go to somos Dental I was able to get braces for my son at 1900 paid in cash with all treatment very flexible on their times and they see him every month for treatment and said my daughter has to wait two sometimes even 3 months at Desert Valley pediatric dentistry.
Honestly, a really great place and very nice people. My kids have been going here for years and have always gotten good work done. However, I would warn you not to schedule your appointment for 8 AM because the doctor and their assistance will be 15 to 20 minutes late. At least that’s been my experience the last two times.
Radiologist got frustrated at my 3 year old way too quickly and she made my daughter cry. This was not her first x-ray at this dentist’s office and had great experience before. Radiologist needs more training with children .
