About Detroit Dental Specialists

Detroit Dental Specialists provides dental care on Plymouth Road in the Weatherby area of Detroit, Michigan. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. What services does Detroit Dental Specialists offer?

Am I a candidate for dental implants?
It comes down to having enough healthy bone to hold the implant and gums free of active disease. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes both affect healing. An examination with imaging is what actually answers it.
How long does a dental implant take from start to finish?
Commonly several months, because the implant needs time to integrate with the jaw bone before the final crown is fitted. Timelines stretch if a bone graft is needed first, and some cases allow a temporary tooth in the meantime.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

Before this new management took over I didnt have a good experience. The people were nice but the business was horrible. I experienced billing issues, I had to cancel at least 4 appointments because i would show up on time but spend more than an hour in the room just for someone to come in to see me. One time everyone went to lunch and I had to wait until they come back. It was a nightmare. In addition I was fitted for dentures and was never able to use them because they did not fit - caused my mouth to have sores, the color was wrong. They only got the bottom approved but the top denture was never approved due to the billing issues. This went on for months - Until the new management stepped in. This new management is AWESOME. On my first appointment after signing in, I waited not more that 10 minutes before I was called in. I was met with the new Dentist and her assistant who was very knowledgeable and reassuring. I needed to have part of a tooth removed before I could have my dentures redone, something that the old management never did. I felt confident that she was going to do things right. In addition, the Dentist was able to resolve my billing issue on my first visit. This billing issue was ongoing from the previous management and it still was not resolved from months back. The whole team was very nice and the atmosphere was very friendly and calming. I have my upcoming denture fitting and I am super excited that I can smile again with confidence. Thanks New Management!
