About Downer Place Dental & Orthodontics

West Downer Place runs a block west of the Fox River through the older civic heart of downtown Aurora, and this office sits at the near end of it at number 11. That puts it inside walking distance of the courthouse blocks and the Paramount Theatre, and an easy drive for households on the near west side, along North Lake Street and the Galena Boulevard corridor. Parking downtown means street spaces and public decks rather than a private lot, which is worth planning around if distance or stairs are a problem for you. Weekday hours begin at 9:30 and run to six, with Saturdays open until one, so you can usually avoid taking a morning off work. If you live east of Route 59 near the Fox Valley Mall, shorter drives exist.

This is a general and family office rather than a single-procedure clinic. Exams, cleanings, periodontal maintenance, oral cancer screening, fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, implants, extractions and night guards sit under one roof alongside children's dentistry and orthodontics. Root canal treatment is carried out here with rotary instrumentation, and the mechanics of it are easier to sit with once somebody has described them. Inflamed or infected pulp tissue is removed through a small opening in the crown of the tooth, fine nickel-titanium files follow the natural curve of each canal to clean and shape it, the space is disinfected, and it is sealed so bacteria cannot recolonize it. What the procedure does not do is make the tooth strong again. A treated molar has lost internal structure and usually needs a crown to stop it splitting under load, and that is a separate appointment and a separate fee.

Imaging on site includes digital X-rays, an intraoral camera for showing you what the dentist is looking at, and panoramic and cephalometric films, the latter being the tracing image orthodontic planning depends on. Nitrous oxide is available for patients who struggle to sit through longer appointments. On the money side, the practice is in network with a broad list of PPO plans, accepts KidCare and Medicaid, and offers CareCredit and Sunbit for treatment that outruns an annual maximum.

Care spans cleanings and periodontal maintenance, fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, extractions, implants, children's dentistry and orthodontics, with rotary root canal treatment and nitrous oxide on site. Digital, panoramic and cephalometric imaging support diagnosis. Weekdays run 9:30 to 6, Saturdays to 1, and the office is in network with most PPO plans and accepts KidCare and Medicaid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need a crown after a root canal at Downer Place Dental?
On back teeth, almost always. A root canal removes the pulp from inside the tooth, and the access opening plus the loss of internal structure leaves the remaining walls prone to splitting under chewing load. A crown caps those walls and binds them together. Front teeth with small access openings sometimes manage with a bonded filling instead. The crown is a separate appointment and a separate fee from the root canal, so ask for both figures up front.
Can I be seen outside normal working hours?
Weekday appointments begin at 9:30 in the morning and run until 6 in the evening, so the last slots fall after most workdays end. Saturday mornings are also covered until 1 p.m., which is the option most patients use when they cannot take time off midweek. Saturday slots fill earliest, particularly for cleanings and children's appointments, so it is worth booking the next one before you leave the office.
Does the practice accept public insurance for children?
Yes. Alongside a broad list of PPO plans, the office accepts KidCare and Medicaid, which matters in downtown Aurora where a good number of households rely on them. Coverage still has limits, since public plans generally pay for exams, cleanings, fillings and extractions rather than cosmetic work or adult orthodontics. For treatment that falls outside coverage or exceeds an annual maximum, CareCredit and Sunbit financing are available at the front desk.

I've been going to Downers Dental for several years. I've seen several different dentists. They all have been patient, informative & gentle. I went for a deep cleaning today. My appointment was at 3:00. I didn't see the dentist until almost 4. I truly understand how this happens. My concern was there was little, if any communication. Neither the office staff or dental staff shared why I was waiting so long. I finally got up from the chair & was pacing. The dentist saw me & apologized for the delay. I just wish I had been acknowledged sooner. I will continue to go back for my dental needs. Hopefully communication will be better.

I have nothing but good things to say, I was comforted and assured through the whole procedure, he checked on me multiple times during to make sure I was still doing okay. He was very gentle but also did an amazing job. Highly recommended. Such an amazing staff and place to get your teeth cared for!

Since attending, The dentist is amazing but I can't say the staff seems the friendliest. I have been quite a few times now but today hit different. Melanie was the one who fixed my temporary crown today. I was there a few days ago w the same issue. Melanie was so friendly, so thorough with her work that it made the last visit feel rushed and lacking! Melani was super friendly, knowledgeable, and happy! I felt like she made sure everything was done correctly and she knew what she was doing. Many steps she took today, weren't done the first OR 2nd time they put the temp. on. Today made me feel way different than any other visit. Thanks Melani! U also smelled great! Keep up the great work. It definitely deserves some recognition. I wonder if I can always request u! Give this girl a promotion or something! Friendliest and most knowledgeable visit I have had yet!

When I made the appointment I told them I had a tooth crack and break. I also lost a filling in another tooth. I need one of them fixed, then I can make an appointment for a cleaning and then get the other one fixed. I was told yes, sure no problem, she scheduled the appointment and I asked again to make sure they would be able to do 1 filling. I was told yes. I get to my appointment today. At the front they say I’m there for an exam, I said no and I explain again. She says oh yes that’s all written here. They do x-rays of the whole mouth. The dentist comes in and says ok we can schedule you an appointment to fix the one that lost the filling. The other will have to be pulled. So at your next appointment we will do a cleaning and fix this filling. Then next appointment we can pull that other one. I told the dentist and he said they didn’t book you for enough time to do a filling. He is sorry for the confusion. There was no confusion!!! They knew exactly why i was there.i have to come out from sandwich, which is a 40 min dative at least. And I got a temporary filling. Which I could have went to Walgreens and got temporary fill and did it myself. I am not happy, but they are the only ones that take my insurance anywhere near me.

I had an appointment today with my son; the staff was friendly, they got us in quick and as afraid as I was… the hygienist was gentle. I am so happy he and I found this place. Don’t worry about parking as I did. Plenty of free parking right in the front. I look forward to going again!!!!
