About Dr Charles Crawford DDS
Dr Charles Crawford DDS provides dental care on Walnut Street in the Center City West area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. I am 95% sure this is the same guy I went to when I was a kid. If you have kids, don't take them to this guy. He doesn't know how to work with kids. He made me afraid of going to the dentist for the longest time, and I still don't fully trust densities at my age now.
For some reason my comment keeps being taken down. He is the worst dentist and person I have ever met. His breath not only stinks, he is unprofessional at all times. He kept talking about all the girls my age do is twerk and he kept trying to touch my hair. He also was talking about his staff being worthless.
Run.
Dr. Crawford practiced somewhere else before he got his own practice and I literally followed him to where he is now. He’s so down to earth and takes really good care of teeth.
Like I read from others, I wish I could give no stars. My significant other went there this Saturday as a scheduled appointment, and AGAIN HE DID NOT SHOW!!!! It was reported that he is afraid that folks won't show up so that's why he rarely does Saturday appointments. However, he stated he will be open on Saturdays and has scheduled an appointment with my significant other. FIRST SAT. APPOINTMENT-Saturday Feb, 23rd, 2019, he did not show which we called him with no answer, then that week finally we got in touch with him, and he stated, "Honestly, I was tired, and forgot". So, we gave him another chance which he stated he will be there. This past Saturday, again he did not show, after some time waiting and CALLING WITH NO answer, a waist of money parking, lost a day of work, and a loss of getting the teeth fixed. WHAT AN UNPROFESSIONAL APPROACH! NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS SO CALLED PROFESSIONAL DENTIST, WE SHOWED, AND GUESS WHAT, YOU DIDN'T AND YOU CAME OFF DOUBTING US. WHICH IS SO DISCRIMINATING AND UNPROFESSIONAL.
I am very uncertain why anyone would give a poor review for Dr. Crawford. I have visited his practice five times in the past three weeks. I have never waited and always have appreciated his honesty and candor. PLEASE IGNORE THE ONE STAR REVIEWS, AS THEY ARE COMPLETELY FALSE. Dr. Crawford's office is professional and accomadating. If you are searching for high quality work with cutting edge technology, as well as a human approach to dentistry his Center City office is the place for you. I have never had a better dental experience.
This has to be the WORST dentist that exists! First appointment I waited an hour without seeing Dr. Crawford and rescheduled bc I was on my lunch, this was my first appt ever at this office... bad 1st impression but I decided to give them another chance. Second appt was there 1 hour and 40 mins, dentist was with me maybe 20 mins so I walked out in the middle of my cleaning. His breath was horrible even with the mask over his mouth but his nose was out so he was still breathing on me. What dentist has bad breath? Horrible customer service and the hygienist didn’t even know the instruments he had to explain everything, which was about another patient not even with me. It was a nightmare. Wouldn’t even give them 1 star but I had to to leave my comments... run far from this office!
DO NOT GO HERE!! I have never seen such unethical behavior and discrimination as I saw here. I went in for an emergency, but he refused to treat it unless I let him treat some minor issues first, because he stated there was the risk that "I would not come back for them" once the emergency was taken care of, and thus he could not cash in on it. I have a severe anxiety disorder that is a documented disability. I told them that. And I said I could only focus on one tooth at a time because of it, and the emergency tooth needed to be addressed first. He refused. He only cared about what he could cash in on. Plus, his breath stank so bad. Who wants a dentist who can't even take care of his own oral health?
