About Dr. Cooper and Associates
Dr. Cooper and Associates operates on K Street Northwest in the Northwest Washington area of Washington, District of Columbia. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Get in touch through it to ask questions or book a visit.

I would highly recommend Dr. Cooper. He's a phenomenal dentist. In addition, Marissa, is an incredible dental hygienist. I've been going to them for a number of years. And the front desk staff is very nice and competent at helping you figure out your coverage and answering whatever questions you may have. I feel this is the best dental practice in DC. They offer outstanding care.
No one likes going to the dentist, that is of course if you have to go to Dr. Cooper and Associates. I actually look forward to my visits, Dr. Cooper is always straight up with me and my decision to have any suggested work done is on me and no one else. I've had referrals for outside work which has also been amazing. So even the other professionals that his practice has to work with are also true to their profession. Lastly, Tran is the best. We talk about so many things during my visit and she knows my family and remembers everything that I share with her. It's the best and I always refer anyone I know who needs dental care to this office. Such a fabulous team of people!
Great Dentist and gentle hygienist.
From jump the office comes across as very professional, but my interactions end up being disorganized, misleading, and a waste of my time. As much as I want to enjoy coming here there are always issues. Whether it is surprise billing, receiving services I didn’t know there would be an additional charge for, to even baited and switched into getting Invisalign, I want to share my experience. I’ve also referred two other people who shared the issues with surprise billing and being convinced they needed Invisalign, against their true desire. There are also additional views on YELP, under Cooper & Associates. Issue 1: I requested a replacement retainer, the old school kind with a wire in the front. I never stopped wearing my retainer it just cracked a bit, so my teeth didn’t shift. Was told he didn’t do that kind but would give me a clear retainer. It was a nightmare, the few months I thought I would have the trays ended up being 2+ years of appointments. The Invisalign messed up my bite completely, and to this day has never been the same. I had jaw pain and went through multiple rounds of Invisalign to correct what I never truly asked for. Also now I’m stuck having to pay $500-600 every time I need new trays and have to swap the trays every 6-12 months. Had I know this I would have never gotten Invisalign. (Oh wait, I never want it, I was told this would be a retainer solution. It’s not, it made things worse. I went from needing to wear a retainer to maybe three times a week to now if I don’t wear it after two days putting the Invisalign on will be tight. It’s beyond miserable.) Issue 2: I was receiving a vague bill for almost two years for a service I was talked into receiving and then also paid for at the time of my appointment. I look on my credit card bill, lo and behold the $600 payment is there. I reach MULTIPLE times via call and emails and they could never reply with details on what the bill is for Issue 3: I booked a single appointment for a cleaning, and it was booked out three weeks out with the understanding I’d see the dentist and get the cleaning the same day. I take off and planned my schedule around that. A few days before, I get a voicemail saying they need to reschedule. When I call back, I’m suddenly told the appointment has to be split into two visits because I can’t have both the visit with the doctor and cleaning on the same day—which directly contradicts what I was told when booking. Then they claim I was never scheduled for both in one visit, which makes no sense given the rescheduling call. Now they can’t get me in for another three weeks—seven weeks total since I first reached out—after I already took time off and planned my week around this. So back to square 1 left with no appointments. I found a few new dentist offices I want to try but I’m so traumatized by what happened with my Invisalign I’m worried about it them not sending over my correct records. (I also reached out and asked what I need to do to get my records transferred over and no reply.)
This was my first dentist visit/experience in a long long time so I was really nervous but I gotta say, staff is fantastic! From reception desk for checking in to consult and procedures, everyone is so helpful and friendly that I loved my experience here. Dr. Phillip has wealth of knowledge and experience to tailor to your dental care and gives practical advice and empowers you to take care of your dental health.
Dr. Coopers team really is the best! Can’t really explain it but I really look forward to chatting with the front desk staff. They’re the kindest ladies and really helpful with appointments. I also just trust everyone here with my teeth. After a long decade of working on my teeth I just feel so grateful to be in the hands of Dr. Cooper & associates. Everyone’s amazing.
After nearly 30 years, I still enjoy coming to this practice. The dental care is superb. The personal attention and courtesy extended by all staff makes everything even better.
Dr. Phillips and his team are fantastic! They’re professional, gentle, and always make sure I’m comfortable. The office is clean, welcoming, and appointments run on time. Being their patient has been a great dental experience. Highly recommend!
