About Dr J Robert Friedberg & Associates

An implant placed somewhere else has started to ache, or the gum around it bleeds every time you brush it. That is a narrow problem with a specific specialty attached to it, and it is among the cases Dr. J. Robert Friedberg's office on Houston's Katy Freeway sees regularly, alongside the older and quieter version of the same story: periodontal disease loosening teeth over years without ever producing much pain.

Friedberg is a board-certified periodontist, with dental training at the University of Connecticut followed by a three-year residency in periodontology, the discipline covering gum and bone health and the surgical placement of implants. The office at 9601 Katy Freeway, Suite 360, sits in the Memorial corridor near Town & Country and Bunker Hill, within reach of Spring Branch, Hedwig Village and the Energy Corridor. Gum treatment here goes beyond scaling: a PerioScope allows the root surface to be seen while it is being cleaned below the gumline, and LANAP laser therapy is used as a less invasive alternative to conventional flap surgery. On the implant side, the range reaches zygomatic and pterygoid placement for jaws with severe bone loss, zirconia fixtures, and All-on-X reconstruction spanning a complete arch, with a 3D printer producing some restorations in house. IV sedation is available for anxious patients. Weekday hours are 8am to 5pm, and urgent problems are fitted around the scheduled book, so calling early in the day improves your chances of being seen.

Some plain framing on gum disease is owed to anyone starting treatment. Therapy halts the loss and stabilises what remains, but it does not regrow bone that has already gone, except in specific contained defects where grafting can rebuild some support. Deep pockets that responded well still need maintenance cleanings on a shorter interval than the usual six months, and that interval is itself part of the treatment rather than an add-on.

Implant costs move with bone volume, grafting requirements and the material of the final restoration, and complex rescue work sits at the higher end of any range you have been quoted elsewhere. The practice is privately owned and works with third-party financing, including CareCredit.

Dr. J. Robert Friedberg is a board-certified periodontist practising at 9601 Katy Freeway, Suite 360, in the Memorial corridor. The office combines gum treatment, including PerioScope-guided cleaning and LANAP laser therapy, with implant surgery that extends to zygomatic and pterygoid placement for jaws with severe bone loss, zirconia implants, full-arch All-on-X and repair of implants placed elsewhere. Root canal treatment, general dentistry and urgent care are also offered, with IV sedation and weekday hours from 8am to 5pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an implant placed by another office be assessed and treated here?
Yes, and it is a regular part of the caseload. Bleeding, aching or a receding gum line around an implant often points to peri-implantitis, an inflammatory loss of the bone holding the fixture. Some cases can be cleaned, decontaminated and stabilised; others involve removing the implant, grafting the site and replacing it after healing. A three-dimensional scan is what separates the two paths, so an assessment visit comes before any promise about the outcome.
What is LANAP, and how does it differ from conventional gum surgery?
LANAP uses a specific laser wavelength to remove diseased tissue from inside a periodontal pocket and to help form a stable clot against the root, without the scalpel incisions and sutures used in traditional flap surgery. Recovery discomfort is generally lower and the gumline recedes less afterwards. It targets the same disease and carries the same requirement: without shorter-interval maintenance cleanings afterwards, pockets tend to return.
Does periodontal treatment grow back the bone I have lost?
Mostly, no. The realistic goal is to stop further loss and keep the teeth you still have, by removing the bacterial deposits driving the inflammation. In certain contained defects, a graft or regenerative material can rebuild a portion of the lost support, but broad horizontal bone loss does not come back. Anyone promising full regeneration across an entire mouth is describing something the evidence does not support.

I’m scared of dentists but they made me feel comfortable and assured me everything will be just fine. Explained everything they were gonna do and very patient with me. From check in to check out was a great experience. Yvette, Jasmine ( hope that’s her name in front desk ) and Dr friedberg all were amazing. Even Monica came in and told me it’s all gonna be ok. Office is very welcoming and clean and organized. Recommend this dental office to everyone.

Amaris is the most amazing dental assistant I’ve ever had! She gets in and out like a magician would never even know she started! Seems to love her job very much and takes care of us with a very delicate touch. Thanks Amaris you are loved!

As a 100% permanently and totally disabled veteran, I trusted this office to complete my dental treatment after several teeth were extracted. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. After my extractions, I spent well over a year attempting to obtain VA authorization for the next phase of treatment, including implants. During that time, there was little to no progress, and I repeatedly communicated with both the VA and the dental office trying to move the process forward. When the VA later requested billing records and began asking questions about charges and treatment details, I found myself caught in the middle between the VA and the dental office. I simply relayed questions and requests from the VA in an effort to get my treatment approved and completed. Instead of helping resolve the situation, communication from the office became increasingly difficult. I was ultimately told that the office could no longer discuss the matter with me because they believed I was accusing them of fraud, which was never my intention. My only goal was to obtain clarification requested by the VA so my treatment could continue. To make matters worse, when the VA attempted to move forward with authorization, I was reportedly characterized as a non-compliant patient who was refusing treatment protocols. This was shocking given the amount of time and effort I had spent trying to get the treatment completed. At no point was my goal to avoid treatment—I was actively trying to receive it. Nearly two years later, I am still dealing with the consequences of this situation and remain without the dental work that was supposed to be completed. I cannot recommend this office based on my experience. I believe patients deserve clear communication, transparency, and a genuine effort to resolve issues when they arise. For anyone who may have questions about this review, I want to be clear that every statement I made is based on documented communications and records. I have retained the email correspondence between myself, the VA, and the dental office, including communications regarding treatment authorization, billing questions, and the reasons given for discontinuing my care. This review is not based on assumptions, speculation, or hearsay. It reflects my personal experience and is supported by written documentation. I understand that others may have had different experiences, but everything I have shared here is factual and can be substantiated by the records in my possession. My goal is simply to share my experience so that others can make informed decisions.

Very professional, honest and very knowledgeable. Well staffed and prepared for any dental situation. I was very satisfied with the treatment his practice provided. In all likelihood he is the best dentist in the US and Canada. I was so very pleased! Thank you so much Dr. Friedberg! You are by far the finest doctor I have been treated by! John Mastrangelo, JD

I visited J Robert Friedberg and Associates for my dental implants journey. While I’m still in the healing phase, the experience has been excellent so far. Dr Friedberg clearly explained each step, including what to expect during healing and the timeline for implants. The whole team has been proactive with post-surgery follow-ups to monitor healing, manage discomfort, and address questions. The environment is welcoming, and the staff are professional, supportive, and reassuring during this waiting period. I’m confident in moving forward with the implants thanks to the thorough care and clear communication from this office. I would highly recommend J Robert Friedberg and Associates to anyone seeking thoughtful, patient-focused dental implant care.

I had an amazing experience at this dental office! From the moment I walked in, Yasmine at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and made the check-in process smooth and easy. I recently had both a dental implant and a root canal done by Dr.Friedberg and Dr.Reyes, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the care I received. I was pretty nervous at first, but Dr. Friedberg took the time to explain everything in detail and made me feel completely at ease. Amaris, the assistant, was also fantastic—very kind, attentive, and reassuring throughout the entire process. Both procedures went much better than I expected, with minimal discomfort and excellent results. The whole team is professional, caring, and truly dedicated to their patients. I highly recommend this office to anyone needing dental work, especially implants or root canals. Thank you again to Dr. Freebird, Amaris, and Yasmine for such a great experience!
