About Dr.Jonathan M Jenkins DDS, MS

Dr.Jonathan M Jenkins DDS, MS provides dental care on Coon Rapids Boulevard Northwest in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the space, and allows the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Its reputation for being painful is largely outdated — carried out under local anaesthetic, it typically relieves pain rather than causing it.

A crown covers an entire damaged tooth — used when too much structure is missing for a filling to hold reliably, whether from a large fracture, extensive decay, or after root canal treatment. It restores both the shape and the biting strength of the tooth underneath.

Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Bone grafting rebuilds jaw bone that has shrunk after a tooth has been missing for a while, most often as preparation for a dental implant that needs sufficient volume to anchor into. Healing generally takes several months before further treatment can proceed.

Crowns and bridges are fixed restorations — a crown covers a single damaged tooth, while a bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the crowns of the teeth on either side. Both commonly last a decade or more with routine care.

At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts. They don't provide a secure way to pay your bill and want you to risk having your credit card info stolen by writing it on paper and sending it via mail. I was waiting to pay when I had my appointment this month and then they sent another bill adding 13$. Probably will be canceling my appointments since they seem to not want to provide patients an easy and secure way to pay bills and then charge more.
