About Dr. Paige Woods, DDS

Dr. Paige Woods, DDS is a dental practice on Friars Road in the Grantville area of San Diego, California. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Is biological or holistic dentistry more expensive?
It can be, since ceramic and composite materials and more conservative techniques sometimes cost more than the cheapest alternative. Pricing varies by practice, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.
What is the difference between holistic and cosmetic dentistry?
They overlap but are not the same thing. Cosmetic dentistry is about appearance specifically, while holistic dentistry is a broader philosophy about material choice and treating the mouth as connected to overall health, which can apply to any treatment including cosmetic work.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

WOW! WOW! WOW! What an amazing experience I had with Dr. Paige Woods and her wonderful, friendly and warm staff. They are all professional and experienced assets to the office. The office is very clean and inviting. The equipment is state of the art. I have never experienced anything like it at a dentist office before. I love that Dr. Paige has a holistic approach to not only your mouth but to your whole body. They also offer in-house insurance if you don't have insurance. I asked my former DDS to remove my last remaining amalgam filling. He said because the filling was too big he couldn't re-do it but would need to put a crown on the tooth. Dr.Paige said she could fill it "no problem"! She took all the safety precautions to make sure none of the amalgam could get into my mouth and was safely disposed of. I ❤️ going to this beautiful, warmly inviting office. The teeth cleaning was state of the art. I needed 2 crowns replaced. With all of that done l had absolutely no pain at all! Oh, and if you don't like pink l would suggest you just get over it...🤣 Please give Brighton Dental a try. I think you'll be very glad you did.

Dr. Woods and her team are top notch! They fixed a an old bridge for me from a many years ago sports injury as well as a crown. If I wanted something, the doctor actually said, “I could charge you for that if you really want it, but I do not think you need that” and then educated me on why and better options that were less expensive. She has state of the art equipment, is continually living in a place of presence and has a beautiful growth mindset. There has never been a more family feel at an office and Dr. Woods truly cares about each and every client like you are her sister or dear friend. Keep doing what you are doing team! It’s working! All the best in the world to your continued thriving practice!

I hesitated to write this review for a long time because I don't like to review places negatively, but I think my experience could be helpful for other people if they're considering going here. I want to start by saying I have very few dental issues. I'm 29 years old and get regular cleanings and exams every 6 months, at which I almost never need any work done. At at my old dentist (in Rancho Bernardo), I had 1 cavity refilled in the 5 years I went to her. I moved down to this area of San Diego and wanted to find a new dentist that was closer to my house. I went to this dentist office as a new patient for my regular teeth cleaning. The office is beautiful and the staff are LOVELY. Everyone here, including Dr. Woods is super sweet. I had my teeth cleaned, all went fine. Then I had an exam from the dentist and all of a sudden, she was calling out all kinds of work I needed done. My permanent retainer needed to be rebonded to one tooth, cavities needed refilling, etc etc. I have never gone in for a simple teeth cleaning and been suddenly told I need so much dental work all at once. She also was naming issues that any of my other dentists have never called out. All in all, they quoted me about $1200 worth of work that I needed (this was what I was going to have to cover out of pocket post-insurance). I was pretty surprised by this and declined to schedule any additional visits here. I decided to drive all the way back to Rancho Bernardo when my next cleaning time came to get a second opinion. That dentist essentially told me that the work I was being quoted by Dr. Woods was "extremely aggressive" and in her professional opinion, she would not recommend as they were unnecessary. She went over each line item of Dr. Woods' quote and explained why she personally would not recommend this dental work and why I didn't need it. I left my old dentist's office with clean teeth & no issues (and glad that I got a second opinion and that I hadn't gotten all of this work done.) As I said before, the office is super clean and nice and all the staff is sweet, but I would hesitate to get dental work done here because it felt like they were pushing unnecessary work as a way to make money.

I REALLY like this team. I am holistic health practitioner and I’m very picky about dentistry and especially holistic dentistry because it’s important to me that the hygienist and the dentist know what they are doing and are properly trained for holistic modalities. Your teeth are a direct connection to your health because each tooth is connected to a different organ or gland in the body and you can bet that if you have an issue with your teeth that you will also have an issue with your corresponding body part. Holistic dentists are educated in this area at a level that regular dentists don’t have the training for and they know how to help you get your health back on track by keeping your teeth properly cared for. I found this team to be extremely knowledgeable, friendly, warm, and highly skilled! The office is friendly, inviting and clean and I was made to feel welcome from the moment I walked in the door. The hygienist was knowledgeable and explained everything she was doing as she went along answering any questions I had along the way. I love that they make their own toothpaste out of a coconut oil base. To top it off they all wear these really happy friendly scrubs that are bright pink and it makes me want to go back and get my teeth cleaned every month because I really enjoyed my experience there! I highly recommend them and will definitely be making then my regular practice now that I am living here in San Diego. Looking forward to getting to know them better and spread more education about the importance of holistic dentistry in today’s modern world.
