Dr. Yon H. Lai, DDS is an orthodontic practice on the 15th floor of 11 East Broadway in lower Manhattan, near the East Broadway area of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. The practice offers orthodontic treatment and general dental care to patients in lower Manhattan and the surrounding communities.
Braces are the primary orthodontic service at this practice. Orthodontic treatment is a long-term commitment, and patients are strongly encouraged to request a complete written treatment contract before beginning any care. This contract should clearly state the total cost of the full treatment course, a breakdown of what is included in that fee, the payment schedule, what is and is not covered by insurance, and the specific out-of-pocket cost for retainers at the conclusion of the treatment.
Patients with dental or orthodontic insurance should verify directly with their insurer — in writing and independently of any representations made by the practice — exactly what is covered under their specific plan before any treatment begins. This includes confirming coverage for retainers at the end of active treatment, as the plan’s explanation of benefits is the authoritative source for coverage determinations. Verbal statements by the office about what insurance will cover do not replace written confirmation from the insurer itself.
Patients should also confirm in writing, before signing any treatment agreement, exactly which licensed dentist or orthodontist will be performing their clinical procedures for the full duration of treatment. If a practice employs interns, residents, or dental students as clinical providers, this should be disclosed clearly before treatment begins and before any payments are made. New York State law requires that patients be informed when care is being provided by students or trainees, and patients have the right to decline treatment by unlicensed or supervised trainees.
11 East Broadway is on the 15th floor of a building near Chatham Square in lower Manhattan, served by the F train at East Broadway and accessible from Chinatown, the Lower East Side, and the Financial District. Patients from Brooklyn can also reach this location via the F train and the nearby J/Z trains.
Patients in lower Manhattan considering orthodontic treatment are advised to thoroughly review all financial terms, obtain written confirmation of retainer coverage from their insurer, and confirm the qualifications of all clinical providers before beginning any treatment at this practice.

My name is Janice and I have been here at this place for a few years, the staff are very nice and the overall atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. I recommend for anyone to come here to get your teeth fixed :)
I've been here years ago to finish my braces, and they did a good job with that, but I must say when I removed my braces here they filed my teeth so much that I have problems now and it's so SUPER sensitive that I can't even smile in these winter months! It HURTS SOOOO MUCH OMGG. I recommended someone here that's why I'm leaving a review after 4-5yrs 😅
Do not ever come to this place. They are the biggest scam. My whole three years going there I have only seen Dr.Lai twice, once on my initial visit and when I removed my braces. The workers there are very unprofessional. Dr.Lai is a NYU professor, and he allows his students to practice or intern at his office. Each visit there would be a new intern working on my teeth. There had been multiple times where they had finished working on my teeth and I went out the door back to the waiting room and the bracket fell off and I had to go back to get it fixed. They did not charge me immediately for these interns' mistakes. At the end when I removed my braces, they told me I had to pay 600+ because of loose brackets. Why am I paying for your interns mistake. If done properly it should no come off before I even leave the office. In the end I still had to pay the cost. After I removed my braces, I saw a small gap that was not even closed. I let the workers know and they gaslit me into saying it was fine and made me leave. Why the heck did I pay almost 5000 for there to be a gap left in my teeth. I would not recommend going to this place unless you want to get poor service, long wait hours, teeth that still have a gap, and have interns practice on your teeth each visit.
If I can chose none star, I will give 0 star. 6500 in cash, "because credit card will charge a very high handling fee", fortunately cash can be paid in installments. Just a few teeth are too close, and it took several years still not fix it well. And it is obvious that they don't pay attention to customer experience and results, and they charge for various reasons in the later treatment. Although there are many customers here, I guess they don't know where to find others doctors other than him. It is recommended that you ask your physician to help recommend a professional and responsible medical specialist, who will tell you the price at the beginning and will not ask you to pay in the middle of the treatment. This place really only cares about collecting money as other reviews say. Unless you have a lot of time and money, don't come again.
I was thinking about this place recently, I had gotten my braces here around middle school. If I had the chance to not come here I would. Only reason was bc I had fedelis care and this place accepted it. Basically watch out bc they scam innocent young kids with parents who aren’t educated on what their insurance covers. They told me after finishing braces, I had to get retainers which I have to pay out of my own pocket which was a LIE because my insurance said everything should’ve been covered. I was young and naive and didn’t understand how the system works. My parents had to cause a ruckus to finally agree on something.I also remember many visits where They also had interns working on my teeth and never Dr Lai which made many brackets fall out of my teeth literally the day after. My parents would yell at me but after it happened so many times they also realized it was this place. And yes I had to pay out of pocket for their mistakes. Looking at my teeth right now, there’s still this issue where my left side of my teeth is raised higher than my right side of my teeth. also. I should’ve fought better and so just to caution anyone that wants to use this service without a choice be careful and know what ur insurance can cover.
