Hands-on general dentistry on Allen Street, Lower East Side

Dr. Zeng Dental Office, P.C. is a general dentistry practice at 2 Allen Street, Unit 3B, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, at the boundary with Chinatown and the Two Bridges neighborhood. Dr. Kevin Zeng leads the practice, providing personally delivered dental care to patients in this part of lower Manhattan.
A distinctive feature of this practice is that Dr. Zeng himself performs the dental cleanings rather than delegating them to a hygienist. Each cleaning is done by the doctor directly, which means patients receive a hands-on level of physician involvement in their preventive care that is less common in larger group practices. Dr. Zeng is noted for being gentle and thorough during cleanings, and for moving carefully through each tooth rather than rushing.
Restorative services at the practice include fillings, tooth extractions (including wisdom teeth), and root canal treatment. Dr. Zeng explains procedures step by step before and during treatment, including what instruments will be used and what each stage of the procedure will feel like. This approach is particularly effective for patients with dental anxiety or for children who have had difficult prior dental experiences.
The practice accepts a range of insurance plans, and patients who have had difficulty finding providers that accept their specific coverage have successfully been seen at this office. The receptionist handles scheduling and insurance coordination and maintains a consistent, professional communication standard for patients calling to inquire about appointments.
Appointment availability at this practice can be limited due to demand, and booking in advance — ideally several weeks ahead for cleaning appointments — is advisable. The practice operates Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and does not offer evening or weekend availability. Patients who need to schedule outside of daytime weekday hours should be aware of this when choosing a provider.
Allen Street is at the western edge of the Lower East Side, with the F train at East Broadway a short walk away. The B/D trains stop at Grand Street and the J/M/Z trains serve Delancey — Essex Street nearby. The practice is accessible from the Lower East Side, Chinatown, Two Bridges, and the East Village.
Patients in the Lower East Side or Chinatown area looking for a general dentist who performs hands-on cleaning and restorative care can contact Dr. Zeng Dental Office at the information listed on this page to ask about availability and book an appointment.

Excellent dental office. Dr Zeng is thorough and gentle, particularly with cleanings and root canals. His staff, especially Holly, keep me on schedule for my cleanings twice a year. The office is busy so you must book far enough in advance. Don’t expect pampering and much small talk, but they get it done well and do quality work.
My mother had a root canal and crown done at this place. The crown fell off in 2 years. When she returned, staff insisted on taking her Medicaid information before they would even take a quick look, saying that otherwise they would start charge cash. After she repeatedly asked for a quick glance, the dentist gave only a brief look, denied that the tooth had been treated there, and even pointed to a different, untreated good tooth claiming that was their work. This is ridiculous. I know profit over patient care happens nowaday everywhere, but seriously where is people's professional ethics? (For comparison, she had a root canal and crown done by another dentist ten years ago is still perfectly fine.)
I was having trouble finding a new dentist that accepts my insurance and was finally able to get an appt here after calling multiple places. So far I’ve been here 2 times and I appreciate how thorough he is with the cleanings. Some other dentists I tried don’t spend as much time cleaning each tooth. Will continue coming back. One bad thing is they’re only open mon to fri 10-6 so I do have to take time off work just to come.
Dr. Zeng is a soft spoken sweet dentist, he was the first dentist to let me know how fillings and baby teeth work. He said it's common for a filling on baby teeth to fall off, since they move and are softer. My daughter had a bad experience with another dentist so she is afraid of the dentist. Dr. Zeng was re-assuring throughout the cleaning and filling process. He let her know what to expect every step of the way. Really nice dentist. We know now why it takes so long to get an appointment with him. Very nice staff as well.
I’ve been seeing dr Kevin Zeng for 2 years, to date. Each cleaning is done by the doctor himself. He’s super gentle and always answers all my questions patiently. He doesn’t rush though the cleanings but does a great job, each time. The receptionist is always pleasant to me over the phone and in person. A month ago, I had my upper right wisdom tooth extracted. It’s my last one and I was having anxiety over whether I needed to go to an oral surgeon and be under anesthesia. But because I didn’t want to wait for this wisdom tooth to cause potential pain, I bit the bullet and scheduled it for Dr. Zeng to extract it. My wisdom tooth was 1/3 grown out and I don’t know if it was impacted or not. Day of extraction: I was nervous and worried but he reassured me that if I felt any pain or discomfort to raise my hand and let him know. The extraction probably took less than 10 minutes and surprisingly my tooth came out intact! I was genuinely surprised but relieved it was over. He asked if I wanted to keep my tooth and I said yes. He also prescribed me OTC pain killers and now, 2-3 weeks later, the hole is healing fine and no recovery issues. Thank you doctor for a smooth extraction process!
