About Eastside Implants & Periodontics

Periodontics is the entire job at this Van Dyke Avenue practice, which is unusual in an area dominated by general offices. Dr. Waleed Rhebi is a board-certified periodontist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, trained at NYU where he received an award for clinical excellence and a certificate of achievement in the Tannenbaum and Schoor memorial competition. He has practiced in and around Center Line for over a decade. The office maintains a referring doctors program, so a good share of patients arrive because their own dentist reached a limit and wanted a specialist opinion on gum tissue or bone.

The central thing to grasp about implants when a periodontist is placing them is that the surgery is only half the discipline. A periodontist spends the rest of the working week treating the tissue and bone that hold teeth in place, which is exactly what determines whether an implant survives. Peri-implantitis, the inflammatory bone loss that can develop around a post years after placement, behaves much like gum disease around a natural tooth, and the same specialty treats both. That is why a specialist assessment will start with pocket depths, bone levels on imaging and your history of gum disease before anyone discusses the implant itself. If active periodontal disease is present, treating it first is not a delay tactic; it is what stops the new implant from following the old tooth.

Alongside implant placement, the practice handles periodontal therapy, bone grafting, ridge preservation and the surgical extractions that precede reconstruction. Full mouth rehabilitation is coordinated where needed. The Monday-to-Thursday clinical schedule, with a Friday morning, is arranged to leave room for same-day emergency treatment, and routine appointments are typically available within weeks rather than months.

Center Line is a small city entirely surrounded by Warren, and the Van Dyke position places the office within easy reach of Warren, Roseville, Eastpointe and northeast Detroit, near the freeway crossing. The practice runs three other Michigan locations, in Pinckney, Ann Arbor and Jackson. Financing options and an online patient portal are available for scheduling and payments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a board-certified periodontist different from a general dentist for implant work?
Board certification means additional years of specialist training after dental school plus examination by the American Board of Periodontology. In day-to-day terms, a periodontist works constantly with the gum tissue and bone that decide whether an implant integrates and lasts. Difficult sites, thin ridges, grafting and cases complicated by existing gum disease are routine rather than occasional here, which is why general dentists refer those cases out.
Can I be seen if my regular dentist has not referred me?
The practice runs a referring doctors program and a large part of the caseload comes that way, but you can approach it directly. Bringing recent X-rays and any periodontal charting from your own dentist makes the first appointment more useful and may avoid repeat imaging. If you are in pain, mention that when you call. The Monday-to-Thursday clinical schedule is arranged to keep room for same-day emergency treatment.
What is peri-implantitis and why does it matter before I get an implant?
It is inflammation and progressive bone loss around an implant, driven by bacteria much as gum disease is around a natural tooth. Left untreated it can loosen a post that had been stable for years. Patients with a history of periodontal disease are at higher risk, which is why a specialist assessment charts pocket depths and checks bone levels before surgery is planned. Controlling existing disease first materially improves long-term implant survival.

I have been a dental hygienist over 25 yrs so Im writing this review as a patient and dental professional. Dr. Waleed Rhebi and his staff from the front desk to the back are amazing!! My implant was recently treated by another periodontist and was still failing. Dr. Rhebi not only saved my implant, he managed to also save the crown that went with it. Im entirely greatfull for his great care and excellence. The tissue is completely healed and looks great!!
