About Edgemere Dental
Edgemere Dental operates on Edgemere Boulevard in the El Dorado West area of El Paso, Texas. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. I scheduled an appointment with this office after they were recommended through my mom's dental insurance. Since I also needed dental work, I decided to schedule an appointment for myself as well. One of the first things that stood out to me was that we were handed an application for a payment plan almost immediately upon arrival. The application was lengthy and requested our Social Security numbers multiple times, along with authorization to run a credit check. While I understand financing is a valuable option for many patients, it seemed to be introduced before we had even discussed our treatment needs or insurance benefits. The staff was friendly and professional, and both my mom and I had X-rays and examinations completed. Since we were in separate rooms, we each received our treatment plans independently. My mom was told that all of her remaining upper teeth should be extracted and replaced with a full upper denture. The estimated cost for that treatment plan was a little over $2,000. When I questioned the insurance coverage, I was shown a breakdown indicating that her insurance would only cover a small portion of the treatment, despite the fact that she still has a substantial annual dental benefit available. When it was my turn, I was quoted more than $1,800 for treatment. I have Aetna dental insurance and have received similar treatment through other providers, so I was already familiar with what my plan typically covers. I was also told that scaling was not covered under my insurance, which prompted me to contact Aetna directly to verify my benefits. Because the treatment recommendations and insurance explanations did not seem consistent with what we knew about our plans, both my mom and I sought second opinions. The second opinions were dramatically different. My mom was given a treatment plan focused on preserving her remaining teeth instead of extracting them. The office carefully reviewed and verified her insurance benefits and explained that, because she still had sufficient annual benefits remaining, her treatment would be covered at 100%, leaving her estimated out-of-pocket cost at approximately $16. My own insurance benefits were also confirmed to be different from what I had been told during my visit. My concern isn't that dentists can have different clinical opinions—that happens. My concern is the lack of transparency surrounding insurance benefits and treatment costs. A recommendation to remove a patient's remaining natural teeth is permanent and life-changing. Before patients are encouraged to apply for financing or commit to thousands of dollars in treatment, every effort should be made to accurately verify insurance coverage and clearly explain all available options. Had I not been there to ask questions and encourage my mom to seek a second opinion, she very likely would have proceeded with a payment plan and an irreversible treatment based on the information we were given that day. That is a sobering thought. I encourage anyone facing a significant treatment plan—especially one involving extractions or major restorative work—to seek a second opinion. It could save you thousands of dollars, and more importantly, it could save your natural teeth. — A concerned daughter and patient

Steve a nice gentleman did explain everything clearly and made sure to answer all questions we had. Was well educated from the front to the back team as well will be recommending to family and friends. Glad to be a pt at Edgemere dental. Will be back soon
They were very nice and helpful. They just did a new patient appointment with x-rays for me, and they worked with me on treatment plans with no pressure or rush. I did have to wait a little bit for someone to come in after the initial exams were done, but other than that, they were wonderful! Stephanie did my deep cleaning today and really helped me feel comfortable. Thank you!
I went in today for a consultation and the staff Vanessa, Luis and Steve are so kind, helpful and informative. The got me in with super short notice and everything from the X-rays, future procedures and financing was throughly and patiently explained to me with no lectures or shaming. I was so impressed that I’m changing my daughter to this office as well. 10/10 best experience I’ve ever had in a medical office.
Luis and Stephanie were excellent dental hygienists. They were both very friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire visit. They explained everything clearly and were very gentle and thorough during the cleaning. I really appreciated their care and attention to detail. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for a great dental experience! 🦷✨
Very gentle, very understanding! I came here with the biggest fear of dentists, and they got all my teeth issues resolved while keeping me comfortable! UPDATE: Nov 25 I still love this place! The new manager is really nice, and as always the doctors are very gentle and understanding for those of us with anxiety 😂
