About Emerald Crossing Family Dentistry

Based on Culebra Road in the Far West Side area of San Antonio, Texas, Emerald Crossing Family Dentistry is a dental practice serving the area. A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Get in touch through it to ask questions or book a visit.

I have always had a great set of teeth. Aside from braces at 15 yo and one filling, all I ever needed was routine cleaning. I moved to San Antonio and found Dr. Martinez via Google search. After reading all of the good reviews, I chose him for my dental care/cleaning. During one of my cleaning visits, Dr. Martinez noticed that I grind my teeth. He fitted me for a hard night guard to correct the grinding. After wearing the thing religiously as he directed, I started to notice my bite was completely off. I felt like my jaw was crooked. My teeth did not line up. I had worn the guard for less than six months. He adjusted it by grinding it down a couple of times. That did not work so I requested a soft night guard because I read that the hard ones could throw your bite off. Keep in mind these guards are not cheap and of course Dr. Martinez did not offer any kind of reimbursement for the initial ill-fitting guard. The soft guard sort of worked as my bite felt better but I noticed that when I would awake the next morning, the inside of my left cheek was sore from biting/chewing it while I slept. I decided to try both over-the-counter guards and a custom mail-order cheek-biting guard, all with the same results. Every day I wake up with my inner left cheek severely chewed up and scabbing over with open wounds that never heal. I switched to another dentist and learned the cheek biting comes from my bite being off, a condition I never had before Dr. Martinez fitted me for that first night guard. I have now been referred to an orthodontist for braces again at 65 years old to correct my bite. Thanks to Dr. Martinez, my simple cleaning appointments are now going to cost me well over 7K to correct the mess he made of my almost perfect teeth. As a side note, Debbie was always very nice but the young girl at the front desk is not someone you want on your front lines if you own a business.

I’ve used Emerald Valley Dental for at least 10-years. Debbie works the front desk and greets everyone with a smile and hello. When I’ve had an issue requiring immediate treatment, I’ve always had the issue resolved quickly. Checkout is always fast, so you can get about your day.
