About Emergency Dental Care USA

Emergency Dental Care USA is a dental practice on Northeast Halsey Street in the Northeast Portland area of Portland, Oregon. Emergency dental care covers sudden problems that will not wait for a routine appointment — severe pain, a knocked-out or fractured tooth, swelling, or a lost filling that leaves a tooth exposed. Same-day or urgent appointments are the point of an emergency service, rather than the standard multi-week booking window.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Emergency Dental Care USA located in Portland?
Emergency Dental Care USA is on Northeast Halsey Street in the Northeast Portland area of Portland, Oregon (97220).
What days is Emergency Dental Care USA open?
Emergency Dental Care USA is open seven days a week. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Emergency Dental Care USA offer?
Listed services at Emergency Dental Care USA include Emergency Dentistry. The full list is shown on this page.
Is a dental abscess an emergency?
Yes. An abscess is an infection with a pocket of pus, and the risk is that it spreads into the jaw, neck, or airway. Facial swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing means it should be treated as urgent rather than something to monitor at home.
Do I need an emergency appointment for a lost filling?
It depends on symptoms. A lost filling with no pain can often wait for a routine appointment, but the exposed tooth is more vulnerable to decay and fracture, so it should not be left indefinitely. Sharp pain or sensitivity to temperature moves it up the list.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

Walked in to a very friendly hard working environment of professionals I came in for a wisdom teeth removal and they explained different process of payments, process of removal, after care and a other questions I had thoroughly. I will definitely be returning for future dental care!

I cannot recommend emergency dental care USA on 8401 NE Halsey st, ste#102 in Portland enough! When my son was in severe pain on the Fourth of July, with his face swollen, they were the ONLY emergency dental office that truly came through for us. Not only did they take him in on a holiday, but they also provided incredibly honest and compassionate advice. Instead of pushing for expensive procedures, they genuinely looked out for our best interest, advising us to go to another practice that accepted our insurance. They even offered to work with us if we couldn't find care elsewhere. This level of integrity and care is truly rare and so appreciated during a stressful time. Thank you, Derek Youngblood, for your outstanding service

I was able to make an appointment online for 1 and a half hours later that day. Diagnosed me with a root canal. I’ve had a couple root canals and this doctor was the best. Staff is super nice.

*EDIT - June 30, 2026: I just wanted to update my review. As much as I appreciated Dr. Mo, I have to add something. I was told December 14, 2025, that I would be getting a refund for a bone graft that I did not end up needing but I was already billed for. This is now July 2026, and I still do not have the refund. I have called Shannon on at least three occasions in regard to this. My husband has called Shannon on two occasions for the same reason. We get the same spiel. She'll get right on top of it and talk to "corporate." It is inexcusable that I'm having to spend so much time on this. I've had to talk to the credit card company and file a complaint, I've had to write a complaint to the OR Department of Justice's Consumer Division. I just recently filed a complaint with the OR Board of Dentistry. I cannot even begin to explain not only my disappointment about all of this but also my disgust when I read a number of other reviews on here that have had this exact same experience with this office. One person had to go hire an attorney to get her money back. This is straight up fraud. I've had to get a refund at a dentist's office in the past. It was for $500. Do you know how long it took me to get that refund? Two and a half weeks. I don't know if this is some scam going or what. If I have to get an attorney to take care of all this it is not going to be pretty..... I don’t normally do reviews. I’m leaving one here because there are not enough words in the human language to express my gratitude to Dr. Mo, Angel and Shannon. I called them desperate on a Sunday morning after being up all night with a severe toothache. I called numerous local dentists in the Salem/Keizer area who stated on their sites that they specifically took emergency calls. I finally gave up and started looking towards Portland. I called Dr. Mo’s office and Shannon answered. She could not have been kinder. She was able to get me an appt for three hours later. I’ve had issues with my teeth plus my last dental experience had been extremely bad. The dentist didn’t have time to numb me completely and I sobbed through the whole incident. I explained this to Dr. Mo. He went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable and promised that he would not move forward if I felt any pain. I will go nowhere else but to this office from now on. I cannot tell you how funny, kind and upstanding the people are in this office. I just wanted them to know how much I appreciate them and am so glad that I found them…. Thank you. Donja Brown

I rarely write reviews, but I had such a great experience I had to. I needed some dental work done and found this place online, and they were able to get me in right away. Great place with great staff. The doctor who performed the work for me was very personable and professional. The front desk lady was exceptional at making people feel welcome. Great personality. The assistants were on top of it and very helpful. What a great team that seems to flow very well together. Small location and a small waiting room, but it's comfortable and clean. It isn't flashy nor intimidating. I'm really glad I chose this location. If ever a bad review is left, I'm guessing it was just an off day for some reason or another. Definitely recommended! Fast and efficient service. Affordable with payment options if needed. Thank you!

I’ve had several procedures done at Emergency Dental Care USA over the years, including fillings, a root canal and crown, and most recently extractions of teeth that had erupted. Every experience has been professional, efficient, and focused on my individual needs. The team is diverse, knowledgeable, and works together to make patients feel comfortable throughout the process. They take the time to explain treatment options, answer questions, and tailor care to your specific situation rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Dental work can be stressful, but the staff and providers have consistently made the experience as smooth as possible. I appreciate their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to quality care. I highly recommend Emergency Dental Care USA to anyone looking for reliable dental treatment in Portland.

I broke my temporary crown while flying into Portland. I found Emergency Dental Care online, used the chat function, someone replied extremely fast! If I wasn't in the process of flying there, they could've fit me in 3 hours! I was able to make an appointment for first thing the next morning. Super helpful with the paper work process. Extremely friendly staff! Hygienist was professional, efficient and friendly. So happy that I chose Emergency Dental Care. Perk to the pick, Tom Petty was the main music playing, love it!
